It’s like saying we should’ve never drafted Dareus

Yeah, looking back at it now, it was a bad pick
But at the time it wasn’t
Same thing with the O’Reilly & Kane trades

Those guys aren’t what didn’t work
It was the other moves/non-moves to fix the defense that have us still struggling

- jdfitz77

Dareus made Jacksonville's defense better, and it was pretty good to begin with. Dareus was a good pick because he had, and still has elite talent. You can make that argument with O'Reilly, but you had better have been really, really good in debate class. Kane does not. He's very good, but nowhere near great. Plus, the Bills did not give up anything by drafting Dareus.

U can’t say he’d have a better career
And that lineup would’ve had us picking 3rd or 4th that year
So please stop with the “Laine talk”

- jdfitz77

I'd rather have keller. Center is more important. Although laine would be nice with Jack and kane

Fitz, it’s fine ... we see the future of this team much differently.
A) To get 2 and 3 it will take significant assets from 1 because we are void of 2 & 3 talent...I don’t need to tell you that.
B) I think you assertion of the fix to 2 is very light, further depleting 1
C) not all those prospects in 1 will pan out to give you enough quality in the top 6...especially when filling the void from my A and B
D) the Cap isn’t completely F’d right now, but acquiring you 2 & 3 will pinch it hard if not limit your ability to fulfill it. Ain’t no one giving you Carlson for Molson, Bogo, Beaulieu, Pommer any of the other atrocious contracts we need to get rid of to make it work.

Pull it off, and you’re a legend GM like the Championship Dynasties of the past.
Love your enthusiasm...but...

- IonSabres

Carlson is a UFA
Sign him, and the defense is
Scandella-Carlson
McCabe/Guhle-Ristolainen
Guhle/McCabe-Antipin

That’s for next year’s defense

Does that work for you?

Hindsight is a b!tch
Every team could say something like that every year about multiple draft picks

I’d have been ok with those WRs
Just like I’m sure almost everyone was ok with Dareus

But let’s just say we picked Aj or Julio & still have missed the playoffs in the years up till now
That doesn’t make them bad picks

Just means we didn’t do enough besides them to get the team where we wanted it

Much like how we haven’t fixed the defense
And I’m with u on the goaltending as well

Good point, darius was a lock at 3 . Remember thinking Denver was taking him at 2 in the mock drafts

Yes. They certainly could be.

You know who definitely isn’t? O’Reilly, Kane and Lehner

- sbroads24

The we should never trade for any “good” player bc we’d rather have a pick that could possibly become “great”

That’s flawed thinking
The guy u pick at 8 has very near the chance of the guy u pick 3rd/4th to become “great”

Sure I like it better tha now, but again at what cost to the Cap then?
And why would he want to come to Buffalo, a getting-to-be perennial bottom feeder.
We have had such great success in attracting prime UFA’s over the past 7-8 years.

I certainly like it better than the poop show we have now...does that fix the D core ... it fills one slot, I think you listed 2 originally (maybe I’m wrong, too lazy to look)

Again, I’d love to see it happen, I just think this team is constructed poorly and has many issues more that you have ID’d.

I don’t
Likely would’ve been Puljujarvi or Tkachuk

No. Not. Never.

That year. 2015. We shouldn’t have that year.

Ryan O’Reilly is not a once in a lifetime player. He’s a top 6 center. Two of those were traded just yesterday.

But they did, the pick they used to draft him. They didn't sign him as a free agent. Instead of using the 31st pick and by shipping off a bust and a kid with an attitude problem, plus a potential good 3C we "drafted" ROR. And oh BTW a pretty good player in McGinn as well who had 14 goals in 63 games that everyone seems to forget.

6mil per
We’ve recently been able to sign O’Reilly, who could’ve just walked & Okposo
Both are on the level of Carlson imo

The other potential defense move I had was trading Sam for someone if we can’t sign Carlson
Heck... DO BOTH

The forwards are fine

Jack, O’Reilly, Sam, Kane, Okposo
Mittelstadt, Nylander, Bailey, Baptiste, Pu, Asplund, Fasching

That’s enough to make a reasonably good top9
No, it’s not Pittsburgh...
but it’s enough talent to have 3 lines that can score & 2 really good PP units

As for goalie...
Crawford? His name is brought up with Chicago’s cap situation all the time
Could potentially be available for picks
Other quality goalies are moved from year to year
