I think what it boils down to is that Murray thought Sam Reinhart was a lot better than he's been the last few years.

Idk if i would "lock up" Reinhart, but if his linemates keep being Griffith and Girgs, his point totals will be pretty garbage, and management will get a good deal on a bridge deal. Put him back with Eichel next year, or get him some wingers who are capable of scoring goals , and boom, 45-50 point player for 3.5-4 mil per year.

If this team is going to contend for a cup, it's going to need another "big money" guy, whether it's from outside or a guy who proves himself from within. Locking up both Kane and Okposo at the money they make and/or going to command, makes that difficult.

I'd think you would need to send over a first and Reinhart, plus maybe a prospect...Quality defensemen are hard to come by. He may not want to stay in AZ but they have tons of money they could offer him, but if he is set on leaving AZ might give him up for a discount.
