Yeah, I just hope he doesn't change his mind if the Canucks are in the playoff race in February. Can't just let him walk for nothing after trading McCann and a 2nd for him. - Nucker101

Ottawa's going for it. Talked about it on Hockey Central. That would be great but what do they got after the Avs/Preds deal? - bloatedmosquito
White/Chabot? I doubt they would deal Chabot in a trade for Guddy as he is solid defensive depth with no waiver requirements, but White could be a target for JB. |

You need contract room when you trade for a player, unless you send a contract back. That's why some players who clear waivers end up getting traded for another player after clearing. - Nucker101
Ok, just say you sign him to a $6.5x6 with the intention of trading him immediately. He gets $3.5M a season now. Remaining daily cap hit is $2,879,032. What if that $6.5 puts you over the Cap even just for an instant while you make the trade? |

Sens apparently are open to trading any picks/prospects except Chabot/White/Brown, that's what held up the Duchene deal for months since Sakic wanted one of them.
I'm not even convinced that JB is going to be targeting picks/prospects for EG, wouldn't be shocked if he tried to make a "hockey trade" like he attempted with Florida and Demers. |

There has been a bit of talk about Guddy's intentions at season's end. Shannon's not the first. If you can't re-sign and you know that he's going to walk then adios amigos!
Someone will pay at the deadline but you ain't going to get a haul in his current contract situation. - bloatedmosquito
I think we would get something similar to what we traded for him. a 1st+ |

You're allowed to be as many dollars as you want over the cap for next year right now, his current cap hit for this season is all that matters.
So that team who gets him is fine if his pro rated 3.5M cap hit fits under their cap this season
Even if the 6-6.5M extension that kicks in next year is gonna put his team over the cap next year.

Currently, Erickson is on LTIR so caps pace is available, also Edler and Stecher could be placed on LTIR to free up even more caps pace if needed |

That's back when he wasn't a pending UFA and signed at a relatively cheap cap hit and coming off of his best season so I'm sceptical. I would love to be wrong though.

But Guddy has more value trading for picks/prospects. Teams aren't going to give much for a pending UFA in a hockey trade unless we are getting their pending UFA. |

TBH if it ain't a high first then I would like a good, young roster player. |

Being a pending UFA doesn't deter some teams. Teams like Chicago, Pitts, etc will be looking for pure rentals because of their caps situations. |

Unless there is a sign and trade in place, i doubt we get anything decent in a roster player trade. |

I agree, but it makes him less valuable than the time he was being shopped by Florida. |

True, true. I'm thinking future state but you have to be compliant by season start only. Team's can go nuts in the summer signing period...

Hard to say. Russell/Hanzal and other players like them got a decent return. Sure in the Russell trade the guy CGY targeted didn't work out, but at the time it wasn't bad. The prospect still has upside at 21 as well. |

Then you would have to ask the question why would he help the canucks. Just wait for UFA and control your own destiny. |

Outside of Ottawa's 2 prized prospects in Chabot and White, they still have a couple intriguing ones in Formenton, Batherson and Brown. |

You know Tallon's going to bend JB over again, if that's where he ends up.
Maybe he can get that 4th back from the Pouliot trade |

I could definitely see Ottawa going after him if they can move Phaneuf, plus Tallon still loves him too. He'll get his offers for sure. - Nucker101
To me, this is the only way Ottawa gets involved. Nothing in their trade history says to me they would be interested in rentals or taking costs. They traded Turris to get an extra year of certainty with Duchene, same with Zibenijad for Brassard, were willing to trade for Burrows because he was willing to sign an extension.
The team is as cheap as they come, so unless they can offload Phaneuf's contract, I think Gudbranson is out of their price range |

Guddy is from Ottawa, i'd bet they could get something in place with a sign/trade. |

He has no NTC so we can trade him wherever we want. If there is a team he would like to play for but they will only do a sign and trade, he will sign to get traded rather than wait and play for whoever we dump him off too. |

that's what I'm saying. A sign and trade helps the team trading him a lot. But unless it's the exact team he wants to sign with, he's taking a chance losing out on the UFA market.
At this point I just don't see him willing to sign a contract to facilitate a trade. |
