The commemorative jersey for the game against Florida will then be auctioned.

"It's going to go straight to the family," said Lehner

I think he is talking about the proceeds going directly to the family.

"Victor Olofsson has a new teammate in Frölunda - former Sabres D Mike Weber has signed a seven-week SHL contract."

There's always Mike Freakin Weber...

Yeah it's weirdly written but i think you're right. I'm guessing (robin) Lehner will offer the winner some sort of signed jersey/stick to the winner in exchange for the practice jersey to go to the family

You're kidding right? They'd be pissed they didn't sweep their way through the Cup. Ok, they'll be magnanimous and allow the other teams one goal per game.

But honestly, the Sabres blogs only show up on the front page now, anyone else have that issue?

There's times when Lehner is on and there's times when Lehner is very off

He isn't the smoothest of goaltenders that's for sure.

The debate is and will always be is he good enough to win in the playoffs.

Based on what we have seen so far this season the answer is no.

I really can't figure him out.

- Stripes77

Maybe they're trying to cram a system down his throat. Just let him go out and make saves and see what happens. Goaltending is way too regimented nowadays.

In Lehner's defense on Ovie's goal, how many times have we seen that cross ice pass go to #8 for the one-timer? I think I have seen that same goal by Ovie more than any other goal being scored by any other player anywhere on the ice. Knowing he is on the ice, most goalies probably would have pushing off to get over as quickly as possible anticipating that one-timer.
- adambuffalo

Yep, I've never seen him take the pass and then go back to the passer. And to be fair it probably would've been a goal either way. You can't leave Ovi unmarked in the slot like that.

Robin Lehner will honor fallen Buffalo Police Officer Craig Lehner on Friday by changing his number to Craig Lehner's call sign and wearing "C. Lehner" on his Sabres jersey.

- Stripes77

I hate to be that guy, but is the NHL going to allow that? Or is it just going to be a pregame thing?

When Peyton Manning wanted to wear black hightops in tribute to Johnny Unitas the NFL said "No, and if you do you won't see the field."

Edit: I read the post a few more down. I figured, these leagues are allergic to good press.

The honorable thing to do is whomever wins the auction to just give the jersey to the family anyway
- Stripes77

I'm sure the money is going to charity or the family, but if I bid and won, I would give it to the family especially knowing he was a fan.

They must have edited the article:

The commemorative jersey for the game against Florida will then be presented to Craig Lehner’s relatives.

"It's going to go straight to the family," said Lehner, who wanted to keep No. 43 past the pregame warmups but could not. "I tried to push and see if I could use it for the game, and we tried to talk to the league. It's tough to do that."

Edit: He should start the game with it. Take the minor, and then change.

the problem with the current core

if you pay kane 7.5 per

and keep okposo, ror , risto and eichel of course

you have 37 mil tied up in 5 players

if the cap doesn't go up, you have 38 mil for the other 17 guys

if half these are decent players
mccabe, mittlelstadt, pu, bailey, baptiste, davidsson, nylander, asplund, guhle, borgen

etc, where is the money going to come from 3 to 4 years later?

and I am not figuring in the skunk factor or goalie situation

is eichel, ror, okposo, risto, kane the 5 core players you want to build your team around for the next 5 years

is there one you want off the list?
2?

- homiedclown

1) the Cap will always go up each year, even if it’s just 2mil

2) there’s gonna be another lockout & teams are gonna get to do the “compliance buyout” again, where there’s no Future Cap ramifications
-So Okposo (or whoever) can eventually be bought out by the time Mittelstadt, Nylander, etc are gonna need raises

Not that I like Kane at 7.5m,
that’s obviously a lot
But he’s our 3rd most important forward
It’s gonna be hard to replace his goal scoring, plus he’s physical & fast & good on the PK & forechecks...

So imo, IF it comes down to it...
better to overpay Kane, than try to replace him

Trade Sam for defense if we have to

What would that do?
He’s already paying tribute

Taking a penalty & paying a fine won’t do anything more than he’s already doing

Lots of talk about Larsson (the anaheim one) in a potential kane deal.

Wouldn't shock me if they pursued Nurse. He's played relatively well for the oilers and they're about to get sekera back. Id imagine Chiarelli would be interested.
