new coaching staff, new way to play...when that didn't work, they went back to last year's top pp unit and when that didn't work, they're trying something else...one thing they can do is attack the powerplay with a greater sense of urgency - Michael Pachla
Idk why they had to try & fix what wasn’t broken?
Housley should take a look at last year’s PP & let them do that
It obviously worked very well |

he's had some real bad moments...but i'm not nearly as disappointed with him as I am with the play of Tennyson and beaulieu, the latter of which coughed up the puck again, with the goalie pulled, which lead to the first empty-netter - Michael Pachla
Beaulieu hasn’t been as bad as Tennyson,
but I think we’re seeing why he was moved down the pairings last year for Montreal
He’s definitely got some offensive talent for a defenseman, it’s just that playing defense part he seems to be struggling with...
He’s on his way to playing himself out of the lineup when Bogosian & Gorges get healthy |
|
|
|
Your location may have indirectly revealed that
I think those misplays got worse when he was paired with the curse of #5 and Gorges. Away from them i think hes been fine - Sabresfan-365
I thought gorges did a great job at helping stabilize a defense in serious disarray...the key with him is limiting his minutes in a third-pairing/pk role |

falk
fedun
pouliot
that's about it
there is going to be growing pains for sure
but you expect players like risto, ror, okposo, mccabe etc to raise their game as they are invested for the future, and for the most part it's not happening - homiedclown
I like fedun, but I have not noticed the improvement in the just over 75 minutes played this year for the sabres.
Falk seams to be playing well, I thought he began to turn the corner last season
Pouliot - really hard to compare, he was horrible last year for Edmonton, but had some good years before

If Sam is part of the “core” and doesn’t get traded, where do u see him fitting in long term?
If it’s RW with Jack,
then where do u see Nylander & Mittelstadt fitting in? - jdfitz77
mittelstadt-eichel-reinhart/nylander
kane/asplund-ror-reinhart/nylander
bailey/baptiste-asplund/davidsson-okposo/pu
I think the sabres can trade either kane, bailey or baptiste
and either reinhart, nylander or okposo long term
fasching is the x factor
this is of course over the next 2 years, not today
but botts needs a long term and a short term plan before the x mas freeze |

beaulieu is what he is
bottom pair d man that can be used on the second team pp
after watching game 1, I really expected this to be a high paced north/south team
it's not aside from eichel and kane |

fair enough...having risto out doesn't help matters...and to an extent, having bogo out doesn't help either |

Who dis?
KYLE CRISCUOLO - jochfr
C, Kyle Criscuolo (2017, FA)--Sabres GM Jason Botterill fortified his AHL team this off season and Criscuolo is a big part of that. The speedy center with plenty of hockey smarts finished his first full season with 41 points (17+24) in 76 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins (DET) and should bring that (and hopefully more) to the Amerks this season.

He's doing well down there... Is he another Jody Gage or is it too early to tell? |

Or Antipin, or McCabe.
I find it funny how some people are towards certain D men.
Bogo makes horrendous turnovers= Were too hard on him
Beaulieu makes a bad turnover = he’s garbage |

I'm not going to act like I have a completely reliable source, but:
NJ called jbotts - inquiring about Kane
Buffalo sent scouts to nj for the home game vs. Edmonton on the 9th.
Damon severson played over 20 minutes and 3 plus on the powerplay.
This was coming off a healthy scratch
Yes he signed a new 5 year deal in September
Butcher has played well above expectations
Anyone "adding" kane will need to trade back salary in a "real hockey" trade.
Damon is above 4 million per
We need a power play type, hard shooting, puck carrying defenseman for our coach to work with.
Cost controlled and under contract # 3 or 4 d.
We need a cost controlled /under contract 3 or 4 D . Plays the power play and young enough to be molded by phil.
Swap of picks
How do we feel about this? Who adds and what?

That’s not fair for us.
They should have to take Reinhart to even it out |

These should be our lines when healthy:
Kane-Eichel-Okposo
Puliot-ROR-Girgensons
Griffith-Reinhart-Pominville
Nolan-Larsson-Whoever
Ristolainen-Antipin
McCabe-Scandella
Bogosian-Beaulieu

Severson isn't a bad young defender, but I wouldn't be pleased if it wasn't added to heavily by NJ. That's just me, others may disagree about Kane's value, but either way, I think we can get a bit better than that...or at least I hope so. |

He's really been bad hasn't he. I know it doesn't work out given our current roster, but hope he ends up back on Jack's wing soon. Starting to worry about the kid. |

Also heard : again take it with a grain of salt:
Jbotts /sabres tried to trade up to 5 in the draft / with Vancouver.
Vancouver asked for reinhart, then evan Rodriguez / b prospect
Jbotts said no,
We were moving up to take casey middlestat.
Jim benning will need to "pony up" to trade with the sabres |

Good. Saw the Buf news article about it. No penalty last night, there was contact to the head, but I didn't see it as principal point of contact. |

Yeah he clipped Yandle a bit. If it happened to us I'd be mad there was no penalty, but probably wouldn't expect a suspension...so good job on the DPS this time for once. |
