Kane and ROR are the only two players that routinely score goals for this team. - Hatboro_Swords
And in 2010-2011 Derek Roy was one of the only ones to score goals consistently for his team until his injury. When he went down, the team ended up playing its best stretch of hockey by a mile since the departure of Briere and Drury. Now, I am not suggesting that either Kane or O'Reilly were the overrated cancer that Derek Roy was, but goalscoring on a bad team does not indicate that one is a difference maker. |

ROR and Kane have been in the league for like 8 years each. Big difference.
But Jack is floating. And watching too often. That's on the coach but he'll probably run him out of town the second he tries to coach him. - BeadyEyedDouche

And that’s not all they do either
But apparently trying to explain how valuable the things they do is just impossible for some to grasp?
Oh, well
I guess if they don’t get it,
me breaking it down for them isn’t gonna make a difference

Ok then...
let’s trade our best scorer & hope the picks we get for him can replace him in what, 3 years? Maybe longer?
Possibly NEVER?
And let’s just switch ROR’s role & Jack’s role
Ya know what would happen...
O’Reilly would score MORE
and Jack would score LESS
I really don’t get why this is so hard to see
It’s super obvious!!! |

ROR is a 60-point guy. That's it. His best defensive attribute is faceoffs. He's not even that great defensively, honestly.
He wanted to be "the" guy in Colorado, made a huge fuss about it, got traded to an equally terrible team, failed to elevate this team and now is the sole reason Jack ECHL isn't wearing a C on his jersey and it's not a very good reason, tbh. - BeadyEyedDouche
If ROR wants to be the guy, he should step up and be the guy, take it. |

No, he's 21 years old, he needs to have the coach riding his ass a little, like Lindy did with Vanek.
There's a fine line between:
Lindy and how he coached Roy (he didn't)
Lindy and how he coached Vanek (lighting the fire under his ass)
Lindy and how he coached Afinogenov (absolutely ruined him)
Roy was never in Lindy's doghouse. Vanek routinely got female doged out by Lindy but Lindy also talked him up constantly in pressers. Afinogenov? Lindy constantly yelled at the guy, threw his hands up at him, blew him off and bashed him in pressers.
We need Phillip to be somewhere in the middle there, like how Lindy was with Vanek, or Jack's gonna be a lazy slut. |

He never has and never will because he's simply not good enough to be "the" guy. He absolutely has caused a locker-room rift.
ROR = Roy.
Except Roy could actually score at a .ppg pace. |

I get your line line of thinking here
Of course, the Coach is gonna have a role in motivation...
But if Jack’s main source of motivation isn’t himself, then he’s never gonna be the player we want him to be

I have his jersey but he's not the guy I thought he was his first year here. I'm not a huge fan of him anymore. He comes off as a guy that wants to be in charge but just wants it handed to him, and won't take it. His hardworking nature is mistaken for leadership ability. |

It absolutely baffles me how much u guys are underselling what O’Reilly doesn for our team
But i guess when u make comments like that, you’re only looking at the scoresheet
There’s a heck of a lot more to being a good player, and O’Reilly does most of those
Not saying he’s a superstar,
but ubguys aren’t giving him his due
Not even close
He’s extremely valuable & important to this team |

That might actually be a fair point
(Just the bolded part, there’s nothing to suggest he wants it “handed to him”)
Maybe he’s not a good “leader”
But without being in the locker room,
it’s more speculation than anything

He's a blue-collar player!!!!
He's very good at what he does: Faceoffs, penalty killing, back-checking, secondary scoring.
But let's be real, I bring up Roy because he's a perfect example. He was underrated as a great penalty killer, he routinely back-checked, wasn't a slouch on the dot, and put up 70+ points a season and the fanbase tears him apart.
But ROR drives through a (frank)ing Tim Hortons, is streakier than Stafford, scores less and is injured more and the fanbase defends him relentlessly.
Idk, maybe because he's just a good ol' Irish boy? |

Floating? Soaring to the rafters would better describe it. Harrington called him out in today's BN. And that will be the end of the # 15 love affair in buffalo. Then we will see if he is as soft and entitled as I believe him to be. |

Oh, we know what ROR adds to the team. And it's not just points. But there's players just like him who play harder, score less and o more for their teams and for much less money.
If you're going to argue that points aren't a measure.
He's a good player. But that's it, he really isn't special. |

Again, I am not suggesting they should trade him for the sake of trading him. However, even if the scenario above played out, you wouldn't see much of a difference. This team has lost far more games than it has won during O'Reilly's time here. The Colorado Avalanche lost far more games than they won when O'Reilly demanded he be paid like an elite player at the age of 23 (or whatever it was). That's how you tell whether or not a player is a difference maker. He's a good player. I never said otherwise. However, if this team values him as a difference maker, it will never come close to a championship. Bad teams consider players like O'Reilly as "difference makers", and that's exactly what the Buffalo Sabres are. |

Teams gameplan against Jack Eichel. They don't gameplan against Ryan O'Reilly.
It's like the Bills and Marcel Dareus. The Bills are hurt by Dareus' absence. Even when he was at his worst attitude wise, teams still had to double-team him on virtually every play. They don't to do that with anyone else on the Bills' line.
Jack Eichel commands the same type of respect from opponents. Ryan O'Reilly does not, not by a long shot. |
