Tbh, that looks like a fringe playoff team. not where you want to max out at.
Moving moulson and bogosian in one off season would be impressive. I dont see how carlson and kane come here at less than 7mil. Im not even sure how you'd convince Carlson to sign here after this team finishes bottom 5 this year. what's the sales pitch?
It's a tall ask for Bailey to be in the top 6 and scandella on the top pair. Guhle stepping in right away at top four minutes. - Sabresfan-365
Fringe playoff team with only $6 million to improve.
Like I said, you can't resign Kane, keep Okposo, and say "we are building for a Stanley Cup" with a straight face, even if you somehow trick Carlson into signing here. |

at 6.5 mil. either he's not top pairing like shattenkirk so he doesnt get his price or he is that good and then why would he sign for a reasonable price with the sabres? |

Thing is, you need to draft or trade for a guy who becomes a top pair.
Best case scenario is moving Kane for a guy with that potential, and hope he hits.

They should be able to get one with the top pick this year. if you get some picks for kane gives you a few more chances to land that guy. either with a mid to late first or early 2nd |

Fringe playoff team for NEXT year, I agree
BUT
we “max out” when all those young players develop into productive NHLers
The team will get better as they improve
Also,
There’s 6mil in room to add someone like JVR or another defenseman, etc
Moving Moulson shouldn’t be hard
Bogo could be an issue, but it’s my guess that some team would take a chance on him
Bailey looked good on O’Reilly’s wing
I don’t expect him to score 20 goals next year, and he will have some rough stretches, but i think he can be ok
If we really have to,
play Bailey on line 3 & go with
Okposo-O’Reilly-Pominville
Idk that Scandella is ideal in the top pair either...
but I was watching Franson be paired with Keith the other night in Chicago
Guhle in the top4 could be a big ask
Maybe with the 6mil in room we bring in another guy for a year or 2?
Or give McCabe another shot with Risto
Maybe as the 2nd pair instead of the 1st they can be much better?
How to get Carlson?
Yeah, it’s a long shot
What I was trying to accomplish here was to show that we can sign Kane
AND
Have room to still add a defenseman like Carlson
And we even have 6mil on top of that
And that’s without adjusting for a raise in the Cap

They’re signed for next season
After that we can plug in Asplund & Cj Smith or whoever
If the thing you’re worried most about there is the 4th line,
then I think we are in good shape
Also... Larsson & Girgs are “ok” 3rd liners
I think they could be pretty darn good on the 4th though |

“Carlson” can be ANY defenseman that YOU would wanna bring in
He’s just an example
And what additions do we need to make to be a contender
Why don’t u give some examples?!
All u do is say “we can’t...”

They have 6 points in 39 games. That's straight up terrible. Secondary scoring is one of our biggest problems and they're poster boys for under performing.
Just get rid of them

But in the 4th line, we wouldn’t NEED them to score
But yeah, whatever

Agreed on Moulson, but I have no idea who is going to take Bogo, who can barely stay healthy.
I think there's a greater chance somebody would take Okposo, assuming he gets back to his normal level of production the second half of the season. - kingcong39
Then what's the point of getting rid of him? If, and there's really no reason to suspect otherwise, that he's still dealing with the after effects whatever happened at the end of last year. |

6mil, PLUS...
an additional 5-7mil raise in the Cap for next year
https://www.spectorshocke...tly-increase-for-2018-19/
The CAP is NOT our issue
Getting more GOOD players is
So yeah, draft & develop
Of course we should do that
I just don’t feel the need to get rid of the good players we already have

Even at his best, his play was either barely at or a little bit under the value that he was being paid. Best case scenario, which is unlikely for a number of reasons, he gets back there. The more likely scenario is that he declines. The smart play is to move him if you can before getting out from under his deal becomes near impossible. |

In 3-4 years we do
Cap is going up 5-7mil next year reportedly
Plus the 6mil in room I’ve already got
Plus Cap raises over the next 2 seasons after that
You’re worried WAY too much about the Cap
Teams adjust every year to make it work
Yeah, tough choices will have to be made at some point
I’m ok with that
Keep Kane & worry about whether or not we can give Baptiste a raise 4 years from now
Heck...
If all these young guys do develop like we hope...
THEN TRADE KANE |

I get what you're saying, but my point isnt just about who can be brought in. I don't believe Kane will be worth the contract he signs. And this team can't afford to add more bad value contracts. Just my opinion

And all those young players, which you seem confident are going hit at this winning level at an almost 100% success rate (which rarely happens) are going to get paid proportionally to that cap raise. The qualifying offers will go up, as will their RFA demands. The NHLPA will make sure of that. At the end of the day, you are still playing with the same amount of cap room, proportionally speaking, which is nowhere near enough to turn this into a championship team with that roster. |

Natural regression is bound to happen when the team gets better. for example
JVR's ATOI is sitting at 14 something, kane is at 20. In the lineup you posted where the forwards become deep, the ice time gets spread out. Most often the wingers are affected.
Also in a scenario where the defense isn't an eyesore, goals start coming from the blueline as well. That means more shooting options for any 5 man unit. The plays drawn up are no longer just pass it to kane. When a volume shooter loses the ability to take all the shots, his numbers will naturally decline. |

I’m asking Mittelstadt & Nylander to be good 3rd line players
Your way would have them on the top line, right?
So which way are they more likely to succeed? |
