For the past 10-12 years, it’s been, as Lundqvist goes, so go the Rangers. Hank is in the midst of one those incredible hot streaks top goalies have, and so the Rangers are 9-2 in the last 11. Let’s see how long he can keep this level of excellence up. The Ranger season depends on it.

Hank's 11 straight starts since Oct. 31st was the key for the team returning to the the playoff race, in going 9-2-0 since Pavelec's last start in the Oct. 28th loss at Montreal, (& Pav's second straight start after the prior game win over Arizona). But during this run, Hank has had the benefit of the schedule favoring him to do so in a 25 days spread, without also having any back to back date games.
However, that benefit will end after these next 5 games with the last 3 of this home stand, and the 2 on the upcoming road trip. After the Dec. 8th game at Washington, they return home on the following night attempting revenge for their Oct. 14th loss to the Devils, (who Pavelec made his first & only other of his 3 starts against).
With Hank currently on pace for 71 or 72 starts, & being worn out by April, management must decide on the backup goal situation by the end of this upcoming road trip to Pittsburgh & Washington. That Dec. 8th game in Washington begins a tougher 9 games stretch within 16 days through Dec. 23rd, including 2 sets of back to back date games of their 9 sets remaining this season. This stretch could play key in their hunt for the playoffs in the tough East.
Hank can't afford to extend his starting streak from 11 to 24 straight games through Dec. 23rd. Neither can the team afford to lose important points in having after this home stand 33 of their final 56 games on the road, where they are 3-5-0, vs. their 9-4-2 home record including their last 7 straight home wins.
So where's Hank's winning backup help? If Pavelec can't be trusted by the coaching staff for making more than only 10 or 11 total starts, (way less than the 20 to 25 they had envisioned), then Gorton and company must find another backup very sooner than later. They can't rely on just Hank at 35, even if he starts every remaining game of thee most importance against nearly every Eastern Conference team. Hank needed Talbot and Raanta in recent seasons, in not being able to win alone for the 82 games grind to get to the postseason, where Hank will then lead them alone as far as he can as usual.
