They got scraps and James Neal and some trades for players

And won with four different goalies

Excuses excuses

Vegas also has 90% of their team in contract years. Look at what Kane has done so far this year. He's having a career year. Plus add to that the fact that most of the players were not wanted by their old teams and in some cases were literally dangled so that someone else wasn't taken.

A lot of those guys are playing for a contract with a new team
But still...
it’s been impressive what they’re doing

part of me thinks we would have been better keeping darcy and lindy

I feel bad for botts and housley as I am pretty sure they were not expecting it to be this bad

I really hope Pegula gives them a few years to turn it around

kane-eichel-skunk is a good top line
pouliot-ror-okposo is a good second line
pommer and larsson are fine as 3rd liners

josefson, girgens, nolan, griffith are fine to plug on the 4th line

risto is a solid 2 d man
scandella is a solid 3 d man
mccabe is a solid 4 d man
antipin is fine for bottom pair
beaulieu and gorges are fine for 6th/7th d men

so overall the D should not be this bad, really only missing 1 key piece for a unit

for the most part, lehner and johnson should provide average goaltending

the team is 11th in PK

part of me thinks it's a pathetic pp, and a tweak here and there

part of me thinks it's a total lack of chemistry and leadership on the ice

I can see it half full as well as half empty

ovi with a hatty last night, 21st in goals scored all time

just turned 32

576 goals scored
205 goals in last 345 games, so not slowing down at all

if there is no lockout

can he score 319 more goals to pass wayne?

he would probably need to play til he is 39 to break it, maybe 40

1) get a 3rd line that can score
2) get the PP back in the top10

Just doing those 2 things should have us scoring 3 goals most nights

Then we will start winning games 3-2,
instead of losing 3-1 (empty netter)

That’s the difference between us now,
and being a borderline playoff team

To be a legit contender...
we’ve still got some heavy lifting to be done there

Lazy, very lazy analysis.

Anytime I have seen a team resort to Player Only meetings, they have very short-term impact...as the team generally reverts back to its’ true self in due time.
Only took the Sabres 1 game to throw their collection of crap on the ice again.

Well, this is the team we have. Given the back reading, I am not expecting any fixes in terms of new players added to right the ship.

JBotts should however be looking for The Guy who will lead this team going forward...a player who puts it on the line every game and who has the courage to call out underachievers, and those not buying in (system play, dedicated to improvement, etc.). Not sure who that is, but a Callahan type.

No, because the idiot NHL will never make scoring a priority

His shot is gonna start to fade at some point, and when that happens he’ll be closer to a 20 goal scorer than 40 goals per

BUT

I do think u can make a legit argument that he’s the BEST goal scorer of ALL TIME

Scoring is WAY down
Goalies are MUCH better

He’s in the top5 at least

We’ll be a “good” team when our youth can come up & knock some of these guys who are just “ok” in their current roles down a line or down a def pairing

I will also think of Bossy as the best goal scorer, in part because he was my favorite non sabre growing up

you have the hulls, richard (history), neely, espo

superstars in #99, #77

bure is in a league of his own

and stamkos is still holding his own

it will be interesting when ovi and stamkos hangs them up to see where they stand all time

right now I am inclined to place ovi top 3

Agree with most of the above,
except Cam Neely
I know his career was cut short with injuries, and he was definitely very good
I just wouldn’t group him in with the rest of these guys
He’s in the next group down imo

And I’m assuming u meant #66, not #77

Rick Vaive averaged over .5gpg?
I didn’t expect to see that!

And how ridiculous is it that Wayne averaged almost 2 points per game?!
No one will ever even come close to putting up the numbers he did in his prime

And it's time for the goal-song to go the way of the "turd burger" third jersey they had a couple years back. Both of them might have been good ideas in the eyes (and ears) of those in positions of power at the time, but both were/are lame at best. One's been tossed away and the other should follow soon.

The guy with 1 goal in 22 games is going to play with courage and call underachievers out?

How bout they ice a team that's actually competitive on paper and then we can see what the leadership is like here. Nobody's leading a bunch of mediocre/overpaid vets anywhere other than a buyout.
