i don't hate him i'm just questioning why the hell we'd consider him - 2Real
Cause he's a better center than Filppula. |

IF we were to get RNH (which for the record...I don't think EDM should trade, but I would gladly take him) I would hope like hell that we could send Filppula the other way. EDM has tons of cap space this year, and can't really commit much money long term. I would trade Gudas+Filppula
The obvious road blocks to that are Filppula sucking and having a NMC and Edmonton being in, well, Edmonton. Would make me sad to know that Uncle Radko is so far away from Baby Neuvirth though - YuenglingJagr
Instead of Weise, change it to Lehtera with 50% retained. Edmonton love slow guys like Lucic and Maroon. |

The JvR for Schenn trade was never going to be a "win" for the Flyers, that was pretty apparent the day the trade was made. Just like when Homer traded the 2008 1st rounder for Steve Eminger. The only way to evaluate if a trade was a good move or not is to judge it at the time it was made.
It's like the Patrick Sharp trade. Yeah, Sharp went on to have the much better career, but at the time it was made, it was the Flyers sending a player from a position of relative strength to fill a position of relative weakness. No one knew if either one would ever amount to much at the NHL level. - jmatchett383
That’s the first time I have ever heard someone argue that...most trades can’t begin to be judged for years. Teams trade for assets that are apparent at the time or they trade for assets that are forecast to grow into something of greater value. Perhaps there are reasons why a team makes a move but the actual judgement of a trade can’t be determined until the assets actually play or contribute. Maybe a team trades for a helpful asset that provides immediate help or maybe a team trades a guy like B Schenn for future draft picks. You may judge at the time whether you agree with their thinking on a deal, but it’s next to impossible to evaluate the quality of a move at the time of a trade.

If gudas gets us rnh i do it simply because that's great asset management. Rnh is worth way more than gudas imo.

so you'd want a guy making 6 mil a year to play 3rd line center? |

I was a little drunk last night and fired up after the game. So I naturally went to my NHL18 and started a new franchise mode. Simmed whole season, we lost to the Rags in ECF. I then traded Gudas, Simmonds, 1st, 2nd (maybe a 3rd too) for Marner, 1st. The isles weren’t capable of signing JT and when he hit free agency, I snagged him for us. Can you say GM of the year?

Dealing Gudas for RNH would create a suspension deficit that would be hard to overcome. I disapprove. |

at least there is a reason for them to trade RNH ($$$) though it isn't a very good one |

The trade makes no sense unless we get him for dirt cheap which is entirely possible with chiarelli. If gudas really got us rnh it's a smart move to make that trade. We could flip rnh again. He's not untraceable |

This is my fear with moving on from ANY of them before we know what we have.
Could Sanheim be Tyler Myers??? Possibly, but he could also be a light version of Pietrangelo and then wouldn't we feel foolish.
Last year this board was littered with "more kicks at the can...more high potential picks" and now that we have a bunch of them people want to move them before we know what we have....ie, trading Weal for middling players who don't move us anywhere from staying a bubble team.
Nobody is happy with where we are, but I'd rather look at the horizon in the distance than the storm cloud overhead. - juiced

Let’s hope all this wonderful change you speak of leads to better results. Change is wonderful if it leads to a better hockey team. To this point you can’t say that. - landros 2

57 games actually and yes he can take his 18 points and sail off. There's a reason he passed through waivers. At 25 years old I don't see him having some major breakthrough. Akeson 2.0 - SimmerDown17
If only passing through waivers was a foolproof way of knowing how a player is going to turn out. NHL history is full of players that passed through waivers at one time or another and went on to become very good NHL players.

1) Agreed
2) Disagree. Very smart move to move Giroux away from center.

Weal is better than Akeson, it was a bad comparison. I don't hate Weal i just don't think he really adds much to this team. I watched him struggle on the Kings early on and wasn't impressed back then, not impressed now either. If he was gone I don't think he'd be missed. - SimmerDown17
He’s a serviceable call up for injuries, but I think he’s a career AHL caliber player and wasn’t sure we needed to hand him the deal we did. |
