Rather than make any moves such as firing the coach or making a reaction trade, Hextall has decided to accentuate whatever positives there are, and to circle the wagons and stick together to try and get through this. He's not going to abandon the big picture and his plan moving forward. I'm unhappy and as frustrated as anyone with their play but I'm not offended by anything Hextall said or the approach they're taking.

Right now he is a young promising player that the coach determined needed a break from the lineup for whatever reason. Last year in 23 games Weal was a play driving winger with a scoring touch. 20 games later he is a spare part and kind of just a guy.
Why do we want Maroon? Seriously.

I am sorry. I am stupid. My bad.

Draft and Develop.

Only answer.....

Here is my thinking...While I agree with the strategy of drafting and developing there are ways to make this team better for the NOW without sacrificing your future.

Weal to me is someone who is a nice player but not someone I see being here long term or even someone I feel like I can constantly count on to contribute. The league is littered with guys that " this guy did this once". Raffl was a 20 goal scorer once.

And if Weal isn't producing points...what other attribute is he bringing?

I used Maroon as an example but there are probably 4 or 5 other names you could use. For me, right now Maroon would add size to the lineup. He is a tough guy but he has also shown to be able to produce goals. He can play in your middle 6 or 4th line. His addition doesn't change any future plans.

If Hextall truly believes this is a playoff team then a move needs to be made for the now...not just the future.

He wants to be competitive and also rebuild that is fine. But then make the moves for the now to then. Not every move needs to have a direct impact to the 20-21 season.

They aren't doing nothing. They're in a draft and development phase of team building. This isn't going to change that.

I completely disagree. I'll say it as plainly as I can. Weal for Maroon does not make any sense. Don't trade any of the future for now. So they can be a better playoff bubble team?

Everyone just needs to calm down.

They've been playing well.

They're doing good things.

Everything is literally great.

I'm cool with moving Weal but not for Maroon. I want a vet preferably one with a Cup ring, or at least a lot of playoff experience with decent size that can play a 3rd line role for the rest of this season and also kill penalties.

I'm sorry, did people not listen to Hextall?

We're playing well. We're doing good things. Keep it going boys!

To be fair he said they aren't playing poorly. Other than the the last 19:50 of the first period and the entire second and third periods last night they played very well. There have been a few critical mistakes at times; like giving up two goal leads in the third period, or being consistently horrible on the PK, but other than that they are not playing poorly.

I'm still waiting to see what the identity of this team actually is before I wring my hands over lineup changes, call-ups, whatever.

I'm not even sure what this team is good at, other than coughing up late leads.

I have to imagine this is a great environment for the kids to play in, learn in.

a 9 game losing streak. The GM thinks they "aren't playing poorly".

No accountability.

How do you know he is part of your future?

Why can't Martel replace Weal. Don't I also have Lindblom in the waiting. how long until Allison, Bunnamann, ratcliff, Rubstov or any other promising player is hear.

My cliff notes version of the Hexy press conference:

Reporters: "The team is on a 9-game losing streak. You players were abysmal tonight. Your fans who pay their hard-earned money to come to the games are outraged and want the coach out. The players held a closed-door meeting. You guys can't protect a multi-goal 3rd period lead. Please give us your take on the situation."

Hexy: "Are you saying these are bad things?"

So what is he? Right now he is a scratch. I don't think he is a future piece either. Right now he is kind of just a guy.

For me he is an easy move without upsetting the whole roster. If I did it for Maroon that adds size to my wings. But he is also skilled enough to play on a third line. His deal is up after this season so it's not a long term commitment.

But it doesn't just have to be Maroon.

- J35Bacher

I don't think EDM would do this. Besides a few good games last year, Weal has not shown very good results at NHL level. He's not that young...25 years old. Marron is a big body that can score when given a decent center. Then again he seems to have a bit of a discipline problem.. Not going to get much more then a guy like maroon for Weal is my point.

And I am fine with that.

For me i think trading Weal is probably one of the easier guys to move and not really effect any future plans. I am not moving guys like Konecny or any or my promising guys in the pipeline.

I am not 100% sure what Weal is at the NHL level. Could he just be another Jason Akeson?
