Evander Kane is putting points on the board early in the season for the Sabres, but general managers still appear reticent to hand out a max-term free agent contract to the rugged winger this summer.
That success – nine goals and six assists in his first 15 starts of 2017-18 – does not yet appear to be translating to teams wanting to line up to give him a seven-year deal when it comes time to put pen to paper on a contract this summer though.

NHL Insider Darren Dreger made his weekly appearance on Buffalo’s WGR 550 on Friday, and he dropped that particular tidbit during a discussion on the future of Kane that began with a look at what he’s seeing from the Sabres.

Provided you have THE QB, the NFL is a place where you can have a decent draft and add some key FA's and turn it around quick.

He got drunk in Arkansas (what part of this do you think offends ME) and engaged in hostilities with people who publicly disrespected him.

Let’s, again, give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he’s going to continue to be the player that he is right now, which is a hell of a hockey player – a player that every team in the NHL can use. If we’re still having this conversation based on how good he is and how well he’s playing, then I’ll rescind that comment because I can guarantee you that the mood and the appetite for Evander Kane around the league will have changed. But it’s in early November and teams are still very, very skeptical. Unfairly? Perhaps, but that’s the way they feel.”

he will absolutely get a big$$$, long term deal
