The best chances Buffalo had were the couple of times there was a scramble in front of Vasi.

That is a Lightning weakness - clearing out the blue paint area. If you crash the net hard on Tampa, you will get results.

They did it a few times and bungled them, or the referee who was very quick with his whistle on both ends screwed up the chances.

There was an open net for Kane late in the 2nd and he whiffed, the puck was bouncing, but he's gotta put that in.

Two issues when it comes to grit.

1. Who the hell wants to take a beating on a losing season, especially when stealth tank is becoming quite obvious. If Sabres management were serious about playoffs, moves would have already been made, players know this as much as the fans do.

2. If you're not in a contract year like Kane, why would you want to take a beating by crashing the net? Too easy to just mail it in right now. Get the work day done, collect your paycheck, get to the bar. If fans to like it, too bad.

How many losses do we have since he's been here? He says it every (frank)ing time. Scandella said it, but he actually had some emotion when he said it, not a robot "this is what a captain is supposed to say, so I guess I should say it".
