"Simpson Must Go! - jmatchett383
He and Wayne Cashman were just god awful head coaches. People gripe about Berube, but those 2, especially Cashman, make Berube look like Scotty Bowman. As much as I disagree with some of Hak's decisions, I'd still take him over Cashman or Simpson.

Flyers cant change anything right now. Fact is apart from the top line the skill on the team diminishes.
Patrick is not ready to be a 2nd line C
Simmonds is in a funk but he was never much of a 5 on 5 producer. 30-45% of his points are on the PP
Weal is not a 2nd line Winger. He does things well but he often forces plays that arent there. He has been guilty of a lot of neutral zone turnovers that have ended up in our net.
I am not a huge fan of Fillpula and will be glad when his contract ends at the end of the season. He is overpaid center who is mostly fit for 3rd line duties
Raffl is a decent player. Has good stretches from time to time but he isnt a game changer or a skilled player. He works hard and earns what little points he gets. More suited for 4th line
Konecny is another young player who has yet to show he is ready for a top role on the team. He is where he should be on the 3rd line right now.
Laughton like Raffl is another player who works hard and earns his ice time but doesnt have the skill to be any better than a 4th line C.
Leier fits the same description as Laughton and Raffl
Read, Weise and Lehtera are not NHL players
In summary this team as a Top line, Two 3rd lines and a 4th line that depending on who is dressed and scratched is AHL calibur.
You can break up the top line but that just gives you some watered down lineups. You can trade but you have to give to get. Could create a hole somewhere else. Or we can be patient and wait for guys like Patrick, Konecny, Lindblom among many other youngsters we have to get better and prove they are ready.
We need to continue being patient for now. If some of the D in the minors start pressing to join the roster then we can explore the trade market in regards to D. We do have surplus of D and we will eventually get to a point where someone will need to be moved. |

You just have to be patient. It usually takes about a year to fully recover from the effects of the surgery that Patrick had last spring. By next season, he should be skating better and have a year's experience under his belt. I strongly believe that he will have no problem slotting in as the 2C next year.
Konecny is a 20 year old kid who is pressing right now and experiencing the often seen "sophomore slump". He has very good wheels, skills and the desire to improve his game, he'll be fine. Simmonds, OTOH, while not the greatest ES player, was or is playing injured. If he is here next season, he should be fine too.
I think they should be able to run out 2 pretty good lines next season with the current top unit and a 2nd line of TK-Patrick-Simmonds. The 3rd line, especially at center will be the key. If Vecchione can be that guy, he could be slotted between Lindblom and Weal which has potential to be an effective 3rd unit, but there is no way to know if he, or even Lindblom, will be able to fill those roles. However, seeing what Vecchione is doing in the AHL and considering what LIndblom has done in his short pro career, I think it's pretty good chance that they can come through. You also have a kid like Martel in the mix for the top nine and possibly even some prospects like Rubtsov or Vorobyev or even Aube-Kubel.
That would leave Laughton still centering the 4th line, which is fine with Raffl on one wing and probably Leier on the other.
Either way, the forwards should be better as a group next season and the D will only continue to get better as they gain experience. IF they can upgrade one of the current goaltenders, there is no reason that this shouldn't be a playoff team in 18-19. Going into this season, unless everything broke exactly right for them re injuries and development etc.., I didn't see them as a playoff team. They are too young on D and still not deep enough up front. However, I did then and I do now, expect them to be a playoff team in 18-19. |

He could have crashed into Provorov who then fell onto Couturier's knee taking both of them out. Of course, that would at least guarantee they finish dead last this season and pick in the top 4, so..... |

So its abundantly clear we need to upgrade the middle of our lineup no?
Yesterday on the tweeter I posted a poll with a trade idea and it came back very close..
48% said yes
52% no.
What do you guys think...
Laughton and our 2nd 1st round pick (Stl) to Mtl for Alex Galchenyuk.
Galchenyuk is being crushed in MTL. They are obviously at odds with each other, but the kid can play and would immediately step in and fill in the 2C spot..
Lines could look something like:
G-Couts-Voracek-
Weal-Galchenyuk-Simmer
Filp-Patrick-TK
Leier-Lehtera/Vecc-Raffl/Weise

I would do it. He's only 23 and signed at 2 more years. But the cap hit is $4.9M, which is a bit higher than I'd like. But yes, I would. |

On the surface, it's a fair deal, especially when you consider that the Blues pick will like be #25 or later. However, Galchenyuk's 4.9 million cap hit for 2 more seasons scares me a little. I'd make the deal, but only if they'd allow us to throw in Weise. I'd even add a 4th round pick to help get that done. |

That would the Flyers over the ceiling, so a cap dump would have to go back with Laughton. |

Capfriendly lists them as having $4.2M current space. With Laughton gone, that would create enough space for him, unless I'm reading something wrong. But like BiggE said, I'd ask about Weise, even if we retained a bit. |

I'd absolutely do it. Have them retain 0.9 and send someone mid salary back like a Weise. 2 years to figure out what you got in him. He would either be a bridge to prospects or a solid part of our core for the future |

I think you're removing Laughton's entire cap hit, which wouldn't happen. Also I still expect some bonuses, but not too much.
Either way...I am not a Galchenyuk fan |
