Looking for positives going into this next game, and I came up with the fact that Boston aren't rolling a line of Connor-Barzal-Boeser/Konecny. - Feanor
I saw Craig Buttons mock from that season and he had Konecny 14 and Barzal 15. DeBrusk seems like a solid player but it is crazy they passed on Barzal 3 times. |

Agree 100%
Past Flyers star forwards like Clarke, Barber, Propp, Brindamour, Roenick, Gagne, Forsberg etc.. all played their asses off in all 3 zones. And even guys who sometimes lapsed on D like a Rick Macleish or Giroux, still were at least solid defensively and they would always turn it up in a big game situation. Jake needs to be better with his combo of speed, size and strength there is absolutely no excuse for him to be such a poor defensive player.
As far as I'm concerned its laziness and it shows a lack of commitment to winning. I really wish the next time he dogs it on D, the coach will have the balls to staple his ass to the bench for at least a period or so. - BiggE
So many opportunities to make an example of jake and sit him for so many defensive lapses. It's too late with this coach, he's let it go on.
As a coach in developmental seasons everyone needs to be held accountable for their effort on their ice. Young players are held accountable for their mistakes, that's all that happens around here. |

The best player Hexy has added to the roster over the bulk of his tenure has been Michael Del Zotto. 4 off seasons. It's no wonder they are where they're at. |

[Coach Ian Laperriere is] also the "rehab/ healthy scratch" skating overseer; a dungeon-master of sorts but one players don't mind because they like him so much. - bmeltzer
I figured you were an old-school gamer, Bill. Which was your game: Holmes D&D, Moldvay/Cook B/X D&D, Advanced D&D, or White Box original D&D?
If ever I run into Lappy, I am calling him a dungeon master! |

Yup, pretty much. JFC, all he has to do is watch the way his current center plays if he needs a "how to" example. - BiggE
We need Jagr back, just to show him how to protect the puck, once more.

Sidney Crosby is a perfect example. World class offensive player who didn't have to do anything but keep on scoring to be considered the best player in the league. He was criticized for his faceoff ability. Became a top faceoff guy. Has worked to become a strong defensive forward. - MJL
Kessel is a perfect example of a player who was run out of town and sold for nickels on the dollar in part because he supposedly didn't care about playing defense. |

I'd say it was Gudas, not MDZ, if we're ignoring drafted players like Provorov. |

Riding the wave of positive, at least Myers didn't get a concussion. That would've been pretty much if it was. |

You're conflating improvement with becoming top players. There is a whole lot of room between the two for young players. There is tons of room for improvement with this team. We'll have to see what happens but I don't know how you can say that there won't be much of an improvement this season. There better be or some changes need to be made. - MJL
This post confused me a bit from someone who feels that the coach really has no influence on players cause they make a lot of money and should self improve/motivate themselves.
So is the coach now responsible for fulfilling the "tons of improvement" and if not look at changes?

It always annoys me when a player with top skill and talent can't (or won't) play defense.
IMO opinion they are the ones who should be the best defensive players simply because they are better than everyone else. Where is the pride?
I know it is a different sport, but Michael Jordan was the best offensive AND defensive player in the league for how many years? He should be the example for players in EVERY sport where you play both ways.
Pavel Datyuk, Zetterberg, Bergeron?
Jake has the skating ability, speed, size, and skill to be a tremendous defensive player. And what maddens me more is there have been times where he was. - MBFlyerfan Well said!!!
