That whole team is a mess. Did you catch Russell's slapshot own-goal to tie the game in the 3rd?
- eichiefs9

The goal was actually the Game Winner for Toronto over Edmonton with 1:05 remaining in the 3rd, to break the 4-4 tie.
I mentioned that on the prior blog late last night after watching that game. It came immediately after a long rebound reached the circle, when Kris Russell, (a la a favorite style turn around slap shot of longtime retired Rangers d'man of the 70's and 80's in Ron Greschner), took that a around slap shot, to the surprise of his own goalie, Laurent Brossoit, which even the Canadian network announcer initially thought was shot by Kadri instead, who was right alongside him.

He wasn't alone, the refs initially gave the goal to Kadri. Too bad for Russell, too. Had it gone to OT and EDM won, he probably would have been the player of the game for them.

I think there is a chance they'll do something at the deadline, they seem to be hoarding cap space for some reason
- jimbro83

Waiting until the deadline to add for this season, with the competition in the East this year, will be too late. We already saw what it required the Rangers to do just to get back into the playoffs hunt, without still being technically in them as of yet. With Zib having suffered his 5th known concussion, it leaves no guarantee that whenever he returns, he will not be even more easily prone to suffer another one, even upon sustaining a routine clean hit of lesser force. There have already been two major NHL trades made during this season, due only to those teams' needs to contend, as opposed to pending free agency of those dealt looming this summer (OTT/COLR. & NJ/ANA).
During my years still of tending goal, a great forward then at age 37 had suffered his 8th concussion, dating back to his playing days of high school & college hockey through age 21. Zib appears sadly to be a similar candidate at this stage. That then 37 year old player suffered his last 3 while only playing later in non contact hockey only, whereby some players can still absorb accidental contact. He was not cleared by his neurologist to play any hockey for nearly 4 years, when he then surprisingly showed up at our non contact pick up hockey sessions on only scattered appearances.

if the Oilers made that trade I'd come to your seat and let you sit on my lap the rest of the reason
- jimbro83

Is that all you would really only let that one do?

Your correct on that Tony. That's why I mentioned that Kadri was positioned right alongside Russell, which is what makes that goal look so surprising when first seeing it live (without knowing its details ahead, and seeing it on replay). It almost resembles watching two people playing those table rod hockey games.

.@EdmontonOilers are secretly shopping C Leon Draisaitl. The price is fairly high. I’m told a top 9 Forward & a top 4 D-Men is the asking price right now. According to sources around the @NHL #LetsGoOilers #Oilers

An absolutely great start to the game. Give up a goal, on the first shot of the game for the Canes. 56 second in to boot. Now they generate ZERO shots on the power play.

Just give the 2 points to the Canes and don't make me waste the 2 and half hours.

Hearing that this is Ziba’s 5th concussion on top of another consistently bad start and early goal let in by Hank tells me it’s not to late to do what’s right, sell sell sell and stop this joke that the Rangers can contend, it’s a pipe dream

I’ve never seen this epidemic of letting in the first shot before, it’s definitely not the mark of a winner

Sam Bennett double his assist total last night. From 3 to 5 and nearly doubled his point total from 4 to 6. He's only 5 points behind Fast.
