I could not disagree with this more. It's a key part of a coaches job to have the players ready to compete.

Okay, tell me how a coach does that?

Scott Laughton is very similar to Brendan Gaunce for Van. Good, Steady numbers in junior. I actually remember liking Laughton in that draft. I look back and realize now that there really wasn't any upside to their games. Crazy enough in that 2012 draft year Laughton is 34th in scoring and Gaunce is 60th. They will probably only ever be good 4th liners in the future. In that 2012 draft there is 180 players that are still worse then Laughton 5 years later.

I watched a lot of his games in Oshawa and he reminded me of Mike Richards. But he never put it all together like Richards did....looking back I probably saw what I wanted to see.

Let's not go down this route again.

Flagged your post because I think the board as a whole is getting sick of this again.

This season is pretty much toast anyway so yeah, let him finish the year. However, if they finish with a record in the bottom 5-8 or so of the league, I want him gone. No need to wait any longer at that point.

I was never excited for this season, because we didn't improve in the offseason. We gave away a legitimate NHL scorer. We became more inexperienced. We became weaker in net...and I don't care what Mason is doing with the Jets (injuries/slow start) it doesn't mean the same would be done here. This team needs to make major changes outside of developing youth. The direction in leadership should be put into question. Holes need to be filled. The coaching staff should be reevaluated.

Maybe. I just saw NHL report it on Facebook. News to me. I don't keep up with the KHL much.

For what it's worth I think he'd be a bad choice but I would take a small amount of pleasure in him making some guys squirm.

I asked a legitimate question in a reply to a post you made to me. This team is in a midst of a 9 game losing streak coming into yesterday's game, their chance at the playoffs slipping away, if not already gone, and the coach has to motivate them to get ready to play? If that is the case then the issue is not a coaching issue, but an issue that the GM has to correct in terms of who is on the player roster and to look hard at the teams leadership core.

No he certainly did not

In all fairness Richards had much better junior numbers then Laughton.

I think sometimes you just have to prepare yourself to know that not all 1st round picks are going to be top 6 forwards or top 4 D. You would like them to but sometimes you draft a guy like Laughton let him get as much experience and then isolate him with some older players to learn from and he may become a shutdown 4th line center in time. Every team needs 4 good lines to win a cup. If you can get a young quality 4th line center.

And I'm not getting into it with you over such a ridiculous question. There's an infinite library of knowledge on the internet regarding coaching and motivation. If you don't think the coach is responsible in any way for the compete level being putting out I just don't have the words for you. Sorry?

I thought Hextall was saying how he didn't want too many inexperienced rookies in the line up at once if he could help it. He traded away a top 6 forward and replaced him with a couple 4th liners? Is that about right?

In terms of the trade it wasn't for the veteran presence of Lehtera, he took back that anchor for 2 first round draft picks. Everyone knows the 2 picks were the prize. And the first on spent on the kid Morgan Frost looks like a hit. Also, Brayden Schenn's ES play has historically been lower than that of a top 6 forward. Know it's tough to hear when he's blowing up this year but he wasn't cutting it at ES over here.

Yes, there sure is plenty of information available on the internet regarding coaching and motivation. Including this.

http://wgcoaching.com/motivation-coaching/

A coach is responsible for for his teams compete level in the sense that he'll pay the price for it if they don't compete. All a coach can do is give a team a game plan, stress the importance of a game and what is on the line and prepare the team as best he can for the games opponent. Players need to be self motivated and ready to play.

If they go out west and go 0-3-0 on this upcoming trip and lose each game by 2+ goals, is Hak still coaching the Flyers when they return to action on December 12th?

What coach/GM survive 13 game losing streaks in their 3rd and 4th years?

Start rattling them off.

I never ever liked Schenn as a 5OA pick. More like a 10OA pick

PP 21st in the league right now. Could make use of him still.

Frost looks like he probably could be a good middle 6 forward. SSM always has a good junior team that probably boosts stats a bit.

Does philly really need more picks right now or do they need more NHL capable players?

I actually buy into the trade. They are currently quite a few players away from contending so it's not realistic in the near future.

It is realistic in 3-4 years so selling players in the prime now for future assets makes sense. They want to maximize the chances of contention when the window opens.

Also, the rate of Frosts points being primary points is abnormally high which would lead to of a conclusion that he is creating the scoring rather than benefitting from others.
