Really ? They both lead to a long period of bad hockey. When a GM refuses to at least try and help his team with the idea of being competitive today ?.. When a team trades away talent for youth or future assets....or when a team is dishonest to its fan base when it’s clear what the intention is....or when a team fills out it’s rosrer with other teams contract mistakes or salary dumps.... Not sure how you want to caterorgize it but it’s ugly.

I will say this. In my opinion neither Hextall or Hakstol will survive this re-the -(frank)-what-ever-you-want-to call-it. This team will require a all around smart GM and a qualified NHL coach to get them to that next level.....good news is there should be a lot of prospects to help the rebuild.

Neither Hextall or Hakstol are being dishonest with their fanbase. That's nonsense. Hextall is doing exactly what he said he was going to do when he took over. Right now it is ugly but Hextall wants to try and compete while building through the draft. Hakstol is on the endangered species list but Hextall is not going anywhere and when this team sees the fruits of his play in the future, Hextall will be lauded for it.

I'm all for sending a message but to the guy who was the only one flying around creating offense? Makes no sense.

How about Manning, who took a needless icing that led to a goal. Or Lehtera, who was seemingly turning the puck over at every turn. Hell, even Patrick had a pretty poor showing.

Benching the only guy who was creating any semblance of chances is asinine.

First thing he should do is split up the first line. They've played good sure but at this point you need to shake something up.

Giroux-Patrick-Voracek
Weal-Couturier-Konecny
Raffl-Filppula-Simmonds
Leier-Laughton-Lehtera

Agreed. That should've happened already and it certainly should have happened in this game.

Well they aren't competing so it'll be interesting to see what Hextall does throughout the remainder of the season into the off-season.

I don't think he wants to make any huge moves but it wouldn't surprise me if one ends up coming out of nowhere at this point.

Real boost of confidence for Konecny too I bet. One of the best forwards on the team this game , well time to ride the bench for a period. That is a clueless move by Hakstol.

Pretty sure he didn’t say he would do nothing after a 10 game losing streak....he did say the youth would play when their ready....that Lehtera sure is a youthful fella. I don’t understand why you can’t build through the draft while you actually do your(frank)ing job as a GM and hold accountable the product your responsible for on the ice at the same time. Because that’s what Hextall has said he would do.

What a company stooge he is.
Yes, 10 game losing streaks, being shut out once every 4 games and regressing to the mean is all part of Hextall's master plan.

I don't get why they didn't just come out and say Lehtera was a cap dump from the start. He brings nothing to the table and they don't owe him anything but a paycheck. Stop icing the guy. The return on Schenn was enough. You don't need to try and convince yourself he is useful by continually putting him out there and taking away minutes from developing players. They pulled the same garbage with Umberger.

Feel free to show me where Hextall when asked about the future of the team and what his team building approach is discussed how he would handle a ten game losing streak. He has held true to his philosophy and plan. Despite how the team is currently playing it is still the right approach and one that he should not abandon due to how the team is currently playing. Hextall also stated that if he can he will improve the team now if he can do so without giving up the future.

He will be lauded like Sam Hinkie. Because he won't be here when it happens. Hinkie was fired for taking too long. The same will happen to hextall. Sports are a results oriented business.

Lehtera is a depth player and nothing more. All coaches will treat players differently. Lehtera is in the lineup because he has scratched Leier for the last two games. Like many coaches, Hakstol has taken young players out of the lineup or reduced their role when he has felt it was necessary. It's part of player development.

I doubt that. Never know what might happen but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

He was named GM in May of 2014. Not counting the first year this is basically still the beginning of his 3rd season with mostly his imprint on the team.

More of an Ed Wade than Hinkie.

Hinkie tanked like no one ever has. It's hard to say Hextall has done anything near that.

Given that he didn't hold any other player accountable by benching them for their mistakes I fail to see any point.

His reasoning when asked at the podium didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

- hereticpride

Yeah let's bench Konecny and keep plugging Weise and Lehtera and Filpulla down our damn throats. At least TK brings energy and effort every shift.

They have this year to improve or hasktol is gone. If we miss the playoffs this year and next I think hextall will be gone. You might get an extra year for him.. you can't go 5 years with crap results and keep your job especially not in this town

I can't speak for the team but in my opinion I have to see significant progress the rest of the season or I would make a coaching change. Hextall isn't going anywhere in my opinion. I see him being the teams GM for the next decade.

It's more of a ball of hope rather than a seeing into the future type of deal.
