Is it even irregular for the GM to join the team on multi game road trips?

In my self proclaimed expert opinion I say for the next 5 games use this line up

Giroux-Couturier-Voracek
Konecny-Fillpula-Simmonds
Weal-Patrick-Raffl
Lehtera-Laughton-Leier

See how that goes and if there is no improvement. Look at breaking up that top line.

How much does anyone want to bet that there will be other challenged goals where the same kind of meaningless contact will be made with a goalie and the goal will be allowed to stand?
- MJL

Conclusion: they're not using that iPad to review the goal, they're just running a coin flipping app to determine the call.

It usually takes some time so maybe it's best out of 5?

P.S. Good to see you back.

I hope it's one of those things that they never admit to changing but just don't call it that way anymore. Just like the toe in the crease rule in 1999.
- The_Journeyman

One can hope. I don't who the ref was who made the call, but it'll be interesting to see if that same thing happens in another game if he makes the same ruling. If not, it's almost like admitting to a mistake in the Flyer game.

Absolutely. I don't think there's any question. Probably a different crew though.

That call was as picky as you'll ever see.

So you're going to let it get to a 15 game losing streak before you break up the top line? That move should've happened at least two games again imo.

tyvm

It probably an older model tablet and just takes a while to get the app running.
Considering these guys are looking at a dinky 7" tablet to review goals, I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume expense was a consideration when they implemented this ridiculous coach's challenge gimmick.

Totally agree.

I'm super glad that moving Giroux to wing looks like a move that worked out, but I'd love to see him moved around the lineup while they are not scoring at all right now.

Even a spin back at center, just to change things up and maybe, give a spark to some of the middle 6 forwards who look like dead team skating.

Sam Carchidi:

#Flyers GM Ron Hextall is on the Western Canada trip, which MAY be critical for Dave Hakstol’s future.

Let’s hope boys, let’s hope.

- arichardson22

Or, maybe, because he's from Western Canada, he wants to see his old stomping grounds?

I'd be surprised if they poopcanned Hakstol so soon after Hextall went out and publicly defended him and the team.

I definitely think Hextall is sending a message to the team by coming on this trip, but I don't think he's going to change out the coach.

Both Calgary and Edmonton have potential needs that the Flyers could fill. Good chance that this is a live scouting opportunity.

I don't know how anyone could look at his Flyers team right now and think "yeah, I need to get me some of that."

In all seriousness the only players I'd be looking to acquires from the Flyers at this point would probably be some pretty big names. Simmonds, Ghost etc. I don't think Hextall is ready to pull the trigger on a move like that just yet.

I personally did not see anything in Konecny's game yesterday that warranted benching. I thought he was one of their better players in the game. I don't know why he benched Konecny. However Hakstol follows a consistent pattern in terms of how he handles things. I would guess that it had to do with something that is cumulative and repeated in what Konecny did that led to the benching. Konecny is still young and still needs lots of growth in his game. So if that is the case then I don't have a problem with it.
- MJL

If i played the game he played yesterday and got benched I would be very confused

I'm sure that Konecny knows why he was benched.

At this point I agree. I think teams will have interest in Filppula towards the deadline.

Yeah, Filppula and maybe Gudas would be the guys I would guess Hextall puts out there around the deadline that should get us a little something in return.

I think there was some rumor out there the other day that Oilers we're looking at Neuvy which I think is just bizarre given how up and down he's been this season.

If you need to go on a west coast trip to evaluate the coach, you should probably just fire him now

I didn't say that I thought a trade was imminent as I certainly don't have that first hand insight, but trades of roster players usually come after in person viewing. One prime example is Vinny and Schenn to LA shortly after they played each other.

I believe he was relieved of his GM duties initially and yesterday fired as coach
