what about neutral zone starts though? i'm betting ozone starts lead to the majority of production, but it can't be that much ahead of neutral zone.

so if you look at it in terms of non d-zone starts, hes miles behind them in number of starts

- robz228

I think it is for the sabres but that would help ROR's case. To establish offensive pressure after an ozone draw it's all about the faceoff or the seconds just after it. I.e winning or losing it but forcing a turnover or tying up the guy etc.

You win a faceoff in the neutral zone you still need successful zone entry, either through controlled entry or dump and chase.

Interestingly some of the best offences have the worst zone start ratio's

Nashville, Dallas and Toronto all in the top 10 here.

because the next faceoff after a goal is in the neutral zone

I think that’s fair.

Although at times, his Houdini act is a problem

Another question worth asking is if the Houdini act is a result of over usage.

Since Risto's zone starts got changed his XGF is way up despite facing slightly better competition and same ridiculous ice time.

I still think putting him on Jack's wing solves quite a few problems

Mike Keenan. 2 words, turns this kinda around. He just was released from his Russian contract. There would be a repercussion for the continual poor play under neutered Phil Housley.

He was awful to start this year though.

I just truly don’t think he’s as good as advertised

true...the oilers tried doing a rebuild completely through youth from the draft, murray attempted to augment his young draft picks with young vets
- Michael Pachla

Incorrect. They "tried" to supplement the team with veteran talent but either made a poor assessment of the talent they acquired, weren't able to complete the acquisition (who wants to go to a losing team in the tundra?) or their existing and established veterans fell apart on them (Whitney, Hemsky, etc).

So put simply, they were catastrophic failures

Doesn't this still say ROR gets more ozone starts than the other two? The real question is does that 2% diff in ozone starts between him and say backstrom account for the difference in production?
- Sabresfan-365

Are we really comparing ROR to Matthews or Backstrom though? I thought he was poop?(not saying you're the one saying that)

I would take both way before ROR even if it crippled the cap. Backstrom is a criminally underrated player. Everyone said it was only because of Ovechkin. Well he hasn't played with Ovechkin since Kuznetsov and he had 86 points last year.

When you can pass and skate well it's probably advantageous to start deep in your own end. More ice to open up, easier to get the puck behind the defenders. More scoring lanes and more odd man rushes.

No problem.

He’s a defensive workhorse no doubt, he just plays an insane amount of minutes for a forward. That comes with its advantages too

- sbroads24

Disadvantages too, if he's running around his own zone for 14 of his 21 minutes that kind of puts a damper on offensive opportunities. Which points to his higher than normal share of PP points. He's gassed from playing so much, defense in particular.

why the hell don't any of these god damn sites cache their results

does it really need to fetch and calculate everything every time someone clicks a page

the page load times make looking at this stuff so frustrating

- robz228

Corsica is awful. I thought they were going to fix it, and that's why they took the site down for 5 months. I refuse to use it. It is so goddamn slow.

That's definitely part of it. It's never one thing you can point to and say "this is why they're bad." well, except their record, and goals for and against. But other than those 3...

We know the Sabres are notoriously bad at passing and we have non existent offense from our D men.

We win and in zone draw, if were lucky not to botch it at the point it's usually a round about until we get a shot off a leg and then we lose possession. Starting in our zone we just don't have the passing or speed to surprise teams in transition.

Moulson, Okposo, Girgensons, Larsson, Nolan have played a combined 115 games this year while racking up 7 goals combined. Adam Mair scored at double that clip. You just can't have that.

I know we all wish you could erase the Moulson and Okposo contracts, but you can't. And it really makes you wonder how such an awful team insists they need to keep a guy like Girgensons. I just don't see it.

I'm fine to wait on Okposo, his effort is there, his speed is back, his strength is back. I'm reserving judgement if and until there's some semblance of team play. Moulson, sure, get him out of here.

Fair enough, he's got 3 of the 7 goals scored. . At the end of the day I think it's team culture problem. Too many passengers is one problem, but the other seems to be players don't respond well to the pressure placed on this franchise. You have an owner who tries to release all of the restrictions that typically come with ownership in a small market and the team has a dedicated fan base. That places all the pressure on the players with the large commitments to produce. And every time large commitments are made here, guys disappear. It feels to me like a culture of "I'm not the guy, are you gonna be the guy? I mean, I know I'm ok but I'm not like going to take this thing over. That would mean I would be relied on and expected to do that all the time. I'm rather comfortable hanging in the shadows while enjoying all the perks that come with a big Pegula contract". That vibe permeates the team and you guy lackluster results. I said the same thing with the pre-tank team.

PDO, called SPSV% by the NHL,
- Sabresfan-365[4] is the sum of a team's shooting percentage and its save percentage.[7] PDO is usually measured at even strength, and based on the theory that most teams will ultimately regress toward a sum of 100, is often viewed as a proxy for how lucky a team is. According to Wilson, a player or team with a PDO over 102 is "probably not as good as they seem", while a player or team below 98 likely is better than they appear.[5]

So if you score more goals than the other team your good?

So are we going to start organizing a bus to start taking us all to Rochahchacha for the Amerks games?

Can someone find the PDO average of the advantages of sitting in the front vs back?

My Corsica numbers are dramatically different if I sit in the aisle seat vs the window.

When I sit on the left side Nylanders numbers go up, but when I choose the right Guhle breaks a skate blade. We'll need a break down of the numbers on these phenomenons as well.

Eichel is in his 3rd year. Hence it's been 3 years since we've tried to win, you don't get to say "we're trying to win" then tank then say "it's been 10 years! WTF?!" how (frank)ing hard is that to understand? Jesus H. Christ.
- Wetbandit1

You lost me dude. Lay off the booze.

The Sabres tore it down for 2-1/2 years and are now in the 2-1/2 years of Eichel.
You said fans are trying to short circuit jus5 getting to the playoffs, expecting a championship performance now.

I disputed that by saying the fans are pissed because after 2-1/2 years of rebuilding, they are worse that when they were tanking on purpose. The fans expected a bubble playoff team this year, not successfully falling to last place, not being able to score in 4 games.
Who they hell is delusional
WTF is so hard to understand.
Get some coffee.
