I don't get the reinhart hate...he's on the final year of his entry-level deal and will be re-signed to a very reasonable bridge contract...he's got skills, but is a young player in a very difficult situation...he may not be second-overall worthy at this point, but he's not on a bad contract either

He does some things well but the bottom line is he doesn't "move the needle". But of our many complimentary players at least he won't be overpaid.

If you get a decent offer for him you'd take it but otherwise I'd keep him around see if he can't make himself useful on a third scoring line or something. If for no other reason than to just inflate his value.

I'm just going by what I read and the odd times I watch a Sabres game. He doesn't seem to be showing signs of developing quite the opposite actually. I mean you're right that'll only help his next contract but with that said I'd rather have a guy paying well and have to pay him more .

one of the reasons...I don't ever remember anyone calling him a franchise player at the draft...
while I agree he hasn't lived up to his 2nd-overall billing, I just think it's too early bail on him

The truth is that the fan base is divided.

NO-ONE disputes his offensive acumen, it is simply off the charts good.
The dispute comes in on:
A) his play away from the puck
B) certain skills centers require to be recognized as great/elite
C) Attitude, Maturity, Leadership skills

He is young still, and needs to be coached up in a big way to be a franchise center...to play that 200 ft game, to actually win more face-offs than he loses, to lead by example and being a dedicated professional who wants to be the best.

In his 3rd year, I and others expect more in the way of A, B, C.
Happy? Nonpe. Hopeful?, Yes.
I am hopeful he matures quickly.
Confident? Let’s just say at $10m per next year, he better ...to whom much is give, much is expected.

Couple that with successfully getting Bylsma run out of town, and he put a lot on his shoulders by his own doing.
