I'd be curious to see total draws/60 I'd bet ROR's are way higher, Sabres games have zero flow with constant starting a stopping. That's why percentages are better. - Wetbandit1
He takes a ton of D zone draws too. I don’t debate that. Probably top 5.
But he plays so many minutes. He gets the offensive advantages too, including #1 PP time
Edit - 4th most D zone draws per 60 among centers |

Offensive zone starts per 60
O’Reilly - 19.97
Backstrom 18.99
Matthews -17.68
Naturalstattrick.com - sbroads24
according to this site
oreilly
126 ozone starts (27%), 143 neutral zone (30%), 196 d zone (42%)
matthews
105 ozone starts (30%), 140 neutral zone (40%), 104 d zone (30%)
backstrom
115 ozone starts (29%), 166 neutral zone (42%), 115 d zone (29%)
for some reason you did per 60 minutes to make it fit your argument better, but how the hell can you look at these numbers and say oreilly is used more offensively than those 2 players lmao |

i would like to see team zone start percentages to compare oreilly vs his team then the others, since obviously buffalo is in their own end more than the other 2 teams
but i can't find it and i dont care enough to add them all up individually |

Murray tried a quick fix, Kane, Okposo & ROR - Irish 14
yeah, some say quick fix, others might say augment...if you look at the oilers rebuild in 2014 when murray came on board, it was going no where...the sabres had very little in terms of homegrown players entering or in their prime at that time |

Because that site does per 60.
O’Reilly plays more minutes than most forwards in the league. You just posted how he has more O zone starts than the other two. Am I missing something? |

so you're just going to ignore than he has almost double the defensive zone draws too?
this is why percentages makes more sense, and the percentages show that he is used extremely defensively
again -- this is probably skewed because the sabres probably take more defensive zone draws than washington and toronto, so i'd like to see the numbers relative to the teams, but i can't find that |

Doesn't this still say ROR gets more ozone starts than the other two? The real question is does that 2% diff in ozone starts between him and say backstrom account for the difference in production?

No. Read the post at the top of the page.
Percentages don’t make more sense. Not when the guy plays an incredible amount of minutes. He could have 60% D zone starts, but when he’s playing 7 more minutes a night than the average player, he’s also getting a ton of offensive zone work + PP time |

The really interesting thing, if they were to track it (and here's where our boy Sheldon 365 could probably MATH IT ALL UP) would be to see how many of the faceoffs taken in the OZONE are won be the guys who get these opportunities, and then more importantly, how many of those wins result in a shot (really a GOAL) by the teammates who generally receive the puck when its won.
Because lets face it, hockey is a team sport, and one guy can win the faceoff back to his teammate, but it the faceoff win is followed by a badly timed pinch, we're all (frank)ed and ROR's faceoff stats mean nothing with respect to his goal scoring. |

only the first piece of the puzzle
the real pieces are the teammates who get the puck after the faceoff win

what about neutral zone starts though? i'm betting ozone starts lead to the majority of production, but it can't be that much ahead of neutral zone.
so if you look at it in terms of non d-zone starts, hes miles behind them in number of starts |

He’s a defensive workhorse no doubt, he just plays an insane amount of minutes for a forward. That comes with its advantages too |

why the hell don't any of these god damn sites cache their results
does it really need to fetch and calculate everything every time someone clicks a page
the page load times make looking at this stuff so frustrating |
