Are we talking just about players who don't sign with the team that drafted them, or free agency in general? If you're going to go with a compensation system, which I wouldn't, but for the sake of argument, maybe a better idea would be to tie the compensation to the value of the contract they sign with another team, kind of like the way it's done with offer sheets.

Same for O'Reilly. One of the premier faceoff men in the league, plays all 3 phases, takes the toughest assignments. But some GM will say, "we could never afford that salary. Ill give you a second and a pointless prospect." O'Reilly and Kane are good. I hope they keep them

Back then the best buds you could get were about the size of a strawberry, and they had lots of red hair coming out of the bud. None of this chrystalline stuff you see all the time these days, though.
