Didn't hear of Borgen's possible distaste for the Sabres, that's disappointing. I hate that CBA rule and hope they dump it. If a college player wants to leave his drafting team he should have to sit out for a year.
I also think our D prospects are a touch overrated due to lace of competition. Hell, I look NHL caliber next to Martin.
- sskkoo1
It was during his interviews at dev camp this year. Hard to really tell. Maybe just me but thats the vibe I got. I think if anything, the team that loses a player via free agency should get a draft pick from whatever team signs him. The draft pick should be whatever round that player was originally drafted in. - MCGUIZZY
Most first round picks, if and when they reach free agency, aren't worth anywhere near a first round pick. So that would prevent a lot of guys from ever getting signed in free agency. The draft pick compensation system works ok in baseball but first and second round picks are way too valuable in the NHL. |

Just seems silly to see the Sabres trading away picks for garbage depth players, no matter how late the pick may be. You could sign any plug you want in free agency. Not a big deal, just seems odd to me. - eichiefs9
I hear you
Jbott must like him. I think this may be a replacement for our 4th line center spot |

I'll ding botts on this one. Wilson is a marginal upgrade and an old botts find from Pittsburgh. I like shaking things up but this is kinda meh |

Wilson was wearing number 23 in Pittsburgh..... lol, just kidding, guess he will wear a different jersey here.
As for the 5th rounder in 2019, who cares. Wilson played most the playoffs for a Stanley cup winning team. Not horrible to have that kind of depth, to be honest. |

Zemgus, Larsson and the rest of the bottom 6 are on notice.
I expect a few more moves before the roster freeze. |

so let me get this straight. We waived a ZERO point guy that was making 5Mil a year and then traded a 5th round pick for another Zero point guy that just so happens to be a former Pittsburgh penguins player... Championship!!! |

Wilson is a decent bottom 6 grinder. Not very big, but plays with a lot of intensity. Has some skill, but I can't see him slotting in on the top lines and producing much. Pens only traded him because they have several other guys who do the same job with a little more upside. |

Thats kind of the point... It would discourage players from trying it and discourage teams from signing them. If they dont want to sign with the team that drafted them, they would be risking staying in no mans land. |

I guess so, makes sense to a degree. I won't profess to know a ton about Wilson, but I would feel comfortable assuming that a guy that was part of three teams in one season is probably interchangeable with just about any cheap-o UFA out there. |

We don't need depth, we need NHL Caliber players, Wilson is not one of them.

Are we talking just about players who don't sign with the team that drafted them, or free agency in general? If you're going to go with a compensation system, which I wouldn't, but for the sake of argument, maybe a better idea would be to tie the compensation to the value of the contract they sign with another team, kind of like the way it's done with offer sheets. |

Have you watched him play more than once? Do you really know? I mean, looking at his stats this year is not showing much, but do you really know he is not better than our current bottom 6? |

Yea i like that idea too.
I was talking about college players that elect to go to free agency instead of signing with the team that drafted them. However there are cases where the original teams had no interest in signing them in the first place. So im not sure how you differentiate between a guy they wanted to sign, but went elsewhere and a guy they weren't planning on signing, going elsewhere. |

I agree with you, but we don't need this guy. We all ready have like 5 of them on the active roster and another 5 in Rochester.
