Good piece on CJ Smith in Rochester...
The one thing that I liked was what he said at the end..."looking at Pittsburgh pretty much every guy played in the AHL at some point in their career"
Wait a minute, didn't I say that like 3-4 days ago?? - Stripes77
CJ is wrong about Pittsburgh. Pens have 4 skaters that played a full season or more in SWB, Kuhnackl, Rownwy, Sheary and Dumolin (spelling). Sabres have the same - Gergenson, Larsson, Pomminville and E Rod. AHL development is highly overrated. If a draft pick has to play in the "A" for more than full season there is a very low chance he will be a difference maker in the NHL. |

He has issues. The breakaways are infuriating and usually I say if there's a breakaway, it was someone else's fault before the goaltender's. At the same point, I don't see him being here long term, yet I would wager once he leaves if he went to a playoff team he would put up starting caliber numbers. He has put up decent numbers on tire fire teams, as you said in different words, the better team, the better the numbers.
You may be right about moving on, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has a lot more success on the team he goes to if they're a playoff caliber squad. - RhinoFan
I think he’s a starting caliber goalie that will get beat by a better goalie in the playoffs |

This chart confuses me
How do teams have 27 guys on the roster opening night?
U aren’t allowed to have that many
And what counts as “AHL development” anyways?
Does it have to be a full season, or is it just some time spent in the AHL? |

Tampa, St Louis, San Jose, NyR, Washington & Chicago...
all in the bottom10
Yet over the last 5years or so they’re among the top10 teams on a yearly basis
Idk what this chart is actually saying? |

Why doesn't GMJB just find and sign a goalie like Hasek, I don't get it |

Basically saying the AHL is important to development but not the absolute.
Some teams like Tampa has guys who played overseas and made the jump to the NHL.
Some teams have the Stamkos, Kane, Tavares, Crosby etc that don't spend time in the AHL.
But almost every player that isn't a perennial All-Star spends time in the AHL |

That's why I argue save% is the most overrated stat. GAA is the truer stat. Can you keep the f uck in puck out of the net.
This team was much worse than our current team BTW, yet Hasek carried them |

100% false
GAA is more of a team indicator than an individual stat
GAA is like a +/- stat for a player |

look at the habs record with price vs w/o
the right goalie makes a difference
sad thing is it's hard to find that goalie
we all should be able to agree lehner is not that guy though |

Nope there was an argument a few days ago with another poster who said that playing in the AHL or winning in the AHL doesn't matter.
When clearly teams feel that's the best place for a player to develop. |

That team had Ray, May, Barnaby and Bougner too. It was a different era. Although I wouldn't mind having more toughness on the current team. |

Correction. It has no direct impact to how good a player is in the NHL.
players don't "get good" by playing in the AHL.
