maybe because we hadn't seen the playoffs in 15 years when we traded for him, he entered the league young, was already pushing 30 and had seen more touches than anyone his age had ever seen, we didn't need a RB at the time, we still had no QB, offensive line or competent management, he never saw the playoffs in Philly and we had literally zero reason to actually make the trade, especially if it were to "make the team better".

You trade for a McCoy after a 9-7 season where you made the playoffs, not a 9-7 season when you liquidated your entire coaching staff.
