I dont think people expect goals or assists from gaunce anymore. I strictly dont want him to play cause hes useless. Goldobin has looked insanely better since his call up compared to last year. Chaput over burmistrov is just stupid to me. Burnistrov sits for 10, only to have chaput get called up to replace horvat on the roster and he plays first? Makes little sense to me. Dowd makes sense given the team and lack of grit we currently have. Goals to me dont always scream importance, but gaunce isnt playing like a NHL calibre player to me

They're trying not to get b1tch slapped too much by a tougher team, the real bad news is it gets a heck of a lot worse should we make the playoff's.

Gaunce is a bigger body than goldy and burmistrov but im not sure hes tougher? Virtanen and Dowd need to play to their strengths tonight against a tough team like them.

Exactly, how many teams have a player that never scores or rarely puts up assists and continues to be in the lineup? Its like people are settling for his uselessness. I don't think its much to ask to simply replace him with a 4th liner that can and will the same thing, except score the odd goal and put up a few points.

Take all Ovechkin for example. He has been one of the most prolific scorers in the history of hockey. He and his team are known as choke artists in the playoffs. Coaches have been brought in to teach him "the little things". Are you going to bench a guy who scores at his rate? No. Unfortunately he scores too much to bench him. Goldy doesn't. Burmy doesn't. Reid Boucher has more NHL points then Gaunce but he's still in the minors.

Why? Well my best guess would be that having the puck on your stick is probably about 2 minutes per game max. So it would be all the "little things" you do when you don't have the puck on your stick for the other 10 plus minutes a game.

I don't think Jake's a fighter, Guance meh, I feel bad for Dowd if that's what they expect of him. The reality is we're not a physical team, they are.

Al Montoya has as many points as Gaunce, however, in his defence, he's played 9 less games - so lets keep an eye on that scoring race.

Not sure about the rest of you. But the second it was announced BoHo was out for 6 weeks. I shut the door on any playoff hopes for this year.

Dowd Will help ease the pain. But he wont even remotely bring to the table what Horvat did.

But who knows, this team has shocked me so far this season.

If Im wrong thats great. If Im not...... Well were right back where I thought we'd be at the beginning of the season.

Cant Complain I guess...

fast teams with a decent forecheck have been the Flames nemesis this year. I think we should be more worried than you.

Burmistrov experiment should be over. The guy is very ineffective.
Goldobin tends to be a bit of a floater still.
Would like to see Biega in for Stecher.

I'm not saying that doing the little things isn't important, but at some point you have to score and contribute. 90 games is long enough. He's expendable, easily replaced, and I think we've seen enough of him and at this point, even Chaput. At this point even my wife laughs when she hears his name during games, she's barely paying attention.

FROM VANTAL LAST BLOG

Don't blame him 2 pts 4 games out

Gaunce 1 A 13 games in

I would be pissed

This is absolutely fawking shameful - Gaunce over Goldobin!!! That little dish*t has been given the longest leash in NHL history. And i don't give a rats A$$ if he does "the little things" - what he hasn't done in nearly 90 games is score, last time I checked goals actually count towards winning... somewhere, I'm sure Gaunce has a room full of "participant" trophies.

- Brooks_Light

Seems like Green is going for the defensive forward group until at least Sutter returns. Dowd as well. I think Sutter will be used more offensively when he returns shortly and Dowd is about playing Sutter's defensive role I think. Not saying this all works out but I see what JB and Green are doing.

As far as Gaunce in the past.... I'm not sure it is called leash if he goes out and does what the coach asks of him. Coaches seem to be happy with what he provides or they wouldn't always use him over fringe players that can score every half dozen games. Maybe the coaches think the goal dif between getting one goal every handful of games doesn't outweigh what they feel is goals against reduced? Fans don't like it.... they are looking for offensive output and decisions based on how they feel rather than what the coaches see from the bench and in practice.

I stated before I didnt want Goldobin pulled from the line up but with 6 weeks of no Horvat and what happened in the last game, I'm not sure Goldobin will be missed.

Any word on Tanev?
