I would argue that you have never worn skates.
So Jack is supposed to let a guy skate by him and then pick up the guy that was covered by Kanes positioning on the ice? - staples
Kane literally just skated away from the play. Which was the wrong thing to do.
I don’t want to blame Kane, because he isn’t a defensemen. But Eichel forced Tarasenko wide, and positioned his stick to cover someone coming through the slot.
It was botched by both players. Period |

I'd rather do that than give them Risto. So, if the deal was McCabe, Casey and 1st for 7 years of Karlsson, then maybe. It would still be a huge hit |

I guess Kane is the more veteran player and should assume that Eichel is just going to play a zone defense there. He skated out of Eichels zone so his assignment is over.
If Kane's job was to pick up Tarasenko then our system is flawed and we should consider a coaching change. Cant have two guys cover 1 person when it only takes 1 to pinch a player against the boards or cause the player to skate towards the middle of the ice where Kane was already positioned. No point having the center follow somebody from center ice just to let him go to the winger. Your basically saying Eichel doesn't need to do anything but coast through the neutral zone in anticipation that someone else will get the puck for him.
Most likely Eichel was thinking about how comfortable the bench is and lost his man while coasting towards it.
Eichel is a second line winger and you know it. He might develop into something more but as of right now he shouldn't be playing center. He isn't good enough.
We are franked.

Wrong.
If Jack forced him wide he would not have been able to skate right towards the net after he blew by him.

I was being sarcastic
I think it's a joke he got that contract before the season started. Now he's taking this season off until he's actually supposed to produce like a 10 million dollar player.
Meanwhile, Kane is playing lights out and we still haven't offered him a contract, traded him and have wonderful commentary about how "cold" he's been lately but the rest of the team well they have excuses, except Reinhart. He sucks, that's unanimous.
It's baffling. Kane the past 3 years in Buffalo has absolutely earned a new contract, it isn't just this season he's earning it. His injury history is the only thing going against him and why I wouldn't touch him at 7 million per but we literally gave almost that exact contract to a player who's just as injured, produces at a similar rate but played with a franchise center for 5 years; A franchise center who actually has a heart and drive to win, who is a better player than our supposed "Franchise" center.
I don't care who's behind the bench or sitting upstairs, all of these decisions smell of Pegula and that is the exact reason this team sucks. An owner should do just that. Instead, he's a part of every single business decision and his "love" for the Sabres is actually driving this franchise into the ground. - BeadyEyedDouche
Late reply from yesterday, but everything this. You've finally got a guy earning a contract for the first time in 7 years under Pegula and we're going to botch it July 1st 2007 style. Or trade him for random scrubs, same thing in my book. |

Everyone on this board basically wants Kane signed, but with their own terms. He s not gonna sign at 5.5 x 5 unless it's a team he really wants to play for.
Everyone's says they want Kane signed, until faced with the reality that he's not gonna sign for less than 7x7 |

Kane turned to pursue Tarasenko because Jack Eichel did nothing to prevent him from skating right past him. It was a last-ditch effort to cover him after Jack Eichel missed his assignment.
Eichel slows Tarasenko down even a little and that play doesn't happen like that. Who knows though Tarasenko is great. He could have probably tow dragged to his left around Eichel as well, that's how much space Eichel gave him by doing nothing.
Kane's play in pursuit was a direct result of Eichel's botched defensive positioning on Tarasenko. If Eichel had actually pinned him to the wall or slowed him down then Kane would probably have done as you expected and skated backward in a straight line just to the left of Lehner.
That did not happen because Eichel did nothing.

Eichel is young and still trying to learn the NHL game. Kane probably should have jumped in on the play but not really his fault. Tarasenko is one of the most explosive players in hockey and preys on weak defensive forwards.
Should have Eichel pressured him more? of course. Should Kane have stepped up sooner? Of course. This is the mentality of our team. Someone else will put the extra effort in. There is not a desperation to win. It can't be fixed with the current players or minor tweeks to the roster.
It's time to make hard decisions to improve the product.
I would rather watch 3 years of young, hungry players missing the playoffs than another minute of the current team.
If we need to package Lehner or Risto to get rid of Okposo, ROR, than do it. If we get offered a first for Kane, do it. If we can get a 4th for Jorges, do it. If we can get a 2nd or 3rd for Reinhart, do it.

I know but this is probably the only player under 7 years of Pegula ownership that lived up to the hype and maybe even improved his game during that time. Who else could we name that was a worth while acquisition? Seriously? ROR? It's still up in the air if he is worth the 7.5 mil.
They gave up assets to acquire and guy and he became exactly what you hoped and now you're going to ship him out for a handful of maybes? Shame on the Sabres for even putting themselves in this position. If they didn't want him, couldn't pay him and don't want to commit to him they never should have made the trade. |
