Easy thing to say to justify things . Take a look at Columbus two years ago who finished below Canucks . Look where they are today compared to us. Same as NJ. That is the difference when you have experienced GMs and Presidents.

You can take the slow boat to China or you can get some one experienced to speed things up. Toronto is another organization that leap frogged up the standings and continued winning even with Matthews out of the line up

So your saying to trade with chia and hire torts?

I think patience is required on JB because his most important assets, the 1st round picks, are only starting to show up. His responsibility was to build the next core beyond the twins and they might all be on the team next year: Virtanen, Boeser, Juolevi, Pettersson

I think a big difference between Columbus and Vancouver is that Columbus sold high on assets and made out like criminals on a few fortunate trades. They were building a long time before things started to click, took a step back, and are clicking again

Thanks Carol for putting together the hot topics. As you can see the glee machine for losing is out. Once that gets played to death the pitch forks come out to fire everyone and trade all. Tired but true play list that rebuilding teams go through.

If any of these Dino GM's are free I'd offer a VP spot to do the hockey details that TL isn't getting done. But keep JB under VP supervision for trades/contracts and signings to complete the hard work rebuild.

Carol Schram: Sven Baertschi has fractured jaw, Vancouver Canucks face slumping Jets
The Vancouver Canucks learned that they will be without Sven Baertschi for the next four to six weeks as they prepare to face the Winnipeg Jets—winless in their last three but still strong at home at MTS Centre.

I'd rather try to find a Yzerman or younger Poile than some old geezer retread.

I'm going to stay out of this discussion after this post. But lol at anyone who thinks cap space/management doesn't matter on both short term or long term deals.

My comments in bold

3 finishes in 4 years in bottom 10
Look at what he inherited... ill give him a pass on this one

Utica is a mess,
draft plus two is when players get to Utica, our to prospects are in Europe or university, next year should be better as looking as they don't go straight to the NHL.

No top 2 Dman brought in
No top two defencemen have hit free agency, who should be have sold the farm for?

No top 3 Forward brought in , has not found replacement for the twins
Bo, Brock and baertchi have displaced them, add Peterson and it will look better.

Bad UFA signings Gagner Loui
Louie is earning his contract this year, MDZ looks good, I'll give you Gagner but every team has these.

Too honest and nice guy for the job
Lol.... really

Too close to the players.
You talking about Trevor?

Cap management not so good.
uhmmm.... hasn't hurt us yet

Positives Brock , this years draft , goaltending, Sven Granlund SutterGaudette
Disagree

This is my opinion only . I am not on a crusade to get rid of him but if Uncle Lou or Armstrong is available then I would look at taking one on

I'd give him a three year contract, can him after two of it doesn't look good

- Pres.cup

Again I am not ripping Jim . He has done good and he has done bad. To me he is so so. I just think there are others that can do better.

To your points.

Most GMs inherit a mess. You very seldom see a GM dismissed for doing an excellent job.

You can justify Utica any way you want they bottom line is they stink. Other teams go through the same problem of players scattered everywhere.

I agree about the top line forwards with Brock EP

I don't agree about the Dmen . I would consider Sergachev a top 2 Dman in the very near future . He was available .

I don't agree about Loui earning his contract . He has 5 goals this year . You hired a 30 goal man that will come nowhere close to that number in his first two years.

Too nice a guy really? JB "I won't ask players with NTC to waive. " Yes really two TDL trades in three years .

Vantel mentioned that these decisions need to be made on results, the fact is the Canucks are in a way better position this year than anyone thought going into the season. Did anyone pick the Canucks ahead of the Oilers or the Ducks? I read a lot of comments that the Coyotes were going to finish ahead of the Canucks.

We finally have some prospects in our pipeline. When Benning started, he had so little to work with. 6 of our prospects are going to be in the Jr's, we have two fabulous goalies prospects coming up in Demko and DiPietro.

Yeah and usually those guys are groomed in an organization and handed the reigns. Sort of why there are more Dino GM's on the cutting block. Though their hockey insider knowledge would prove savvy in a VP role.

Judd Bracket seems to be on the long term GM grooming track with Canucks rising up the scouting department. But Naslund is a closer option if he wants to come back to NA. Plus, wouldn't be surprised if Twins take advisor roles post retirement.

I agree about your comments .

Would Canucks fans feel further along the rebuild if we had Tryamkin and Segachev instead of OJ and Stecher? I know Tryamkin is a weird issue but the end results are we have Stecher and are still waiting for OJ as the fan base rips into Edlers play.

It still all comes down to end results. IMO

- VANTEL

I don't mind that OJ has taken this long to develop. I think they're doing the right thing playing him in Finland for now and then either the AHL or NHL next year if he's ready. He still has top pairing potential in my opinion and is just a different type of defender than a Sergachev.

Hopefully the prospects like Petterson, Juolevi, Dahlin, Demko, etc. can all come in over the next few years and step up for the team, similar to how all the rookies came into Toronto last year, and really help out this team that has a decent amount of veteran presence and cup finals experience in the Sedins and Edler (if they aren't all gone).

As you said, it all comes down to the end results so hopefully that's a Stanley Cup for the Nucks.

He inherited a mess, but it takes time to break it down and build it up. A lot of NTC's and long term deals he had to slowly move or wait out. I am happy with the current trajectory and the style of players he's acquired through draft/trades. If only some pan out, the team will be exciting to watch in a few years - that'll be on JB

Personally I dont see a big correlation between Calder Cup winners and Stanley Cup winners, thus I only care that when our important players are there, they play. So far thats been the case with Markstrom, Baertschi, Virtanen, Goldobin, Demko, etc

All these teams you mention are not parallels for Vancouver. Neither Toronto nor Columbus were challenging for a Stanley Cup a few years ago. They have been “rebuilding” for a decade. The Devils are not a bad comparaison, having lost in the finals to the Kings the year after the Canucks, and they have done a great job of “rebuilding on the fly”. Turning Horvat into Schneider and Larsson into Hall sure helps.
- 1970vintage

I like your Devils comparison. Kovalchuck retiring was a huge boost to getting rid of an albatross contract and role sucking roster spot that accelerated the push to have younger players in the line up. Voila a faster team better equipped to compete in the new NHL. The Canucks can be there next season and believe JB wants that too.

I wonder what Van would be like if they got Hischier. Or didn't drop 3 spots in the past 2 drafts.

OJ is playing really really well in Finland, He's third in scoring for U20 players, the other two guys ahead of him are forwards that have played more games as well. One of them is Vesalainen so that's pretty impressive. It's a mens league and he's holding his own, doesnt seem outta place and developing all aspects of his game properly. Absolutely what the kid needs.
The Sergachev envy would be different if he was on literally any other team.

Yeah a lot of the negative hype is just because it's Vancouver for sure. Coming into the draft I'm pretty sure he was the top rated defenseman so I never understood what was up there. Juolevi definitely has me excited and the Canucks future is bright for sure. They've done a great job drafting in recent years besides Virtanen, but have gotten a lot of heat because of Virtanen despite 1st rounders Boeser, Petterson and Horvat (and Juolevi) and later picks like Demko, DiPietro, Hutton and Lind.
