I disagree, he plucked a lot of NHL talent, just pissed it away.
Oh wait, you said “I’m not thrilled”, I guess I can’t disagree with an opinion, only offer my own - 1970vintage
Pissing guys like Forsling and McCann away as well as mismanaging Tryamkin are another thing, but let's not get into it |

They only have like 13 players signed next year and I'm guessing Boeser will be getting some bonuses. Need to fill 10 roster spots with $29M or less. If you sign a 10M+ dollar player then that's getting into unrealistic territory.
Now take out LE's 6M and it looks very possible. - Nucker101
You can't convince him, he can't see the forest for the trees because he might melt if he says something constructive/negative about the team. Despite what he constantly spews on Benning, Jim doesn't poop sunshine and roses out his ass, he's made some mistakes. |

All I am saying is an experienced GM would(could) turn it around quicker . A guy like Rutherford or Davidson (Pres).
I don't really mind if they sign JB or if they move on . - VANTEL

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Mike Gillis apologist, however, he wasn't drafting top six three out of four years and they had enough sense to take Bo Horvat and I suppose sign Chris Tanev and draft Hutton as a serviceable third pairing dman. - LeftCoaster
TB, LA, Chicaco and many others proved you don't need to draft top 6 to get big name players. In all the drafts Gillis had he only ever produced Horvat and Hutton, and got Tanev out of college. Pretty pathetic. Horvat cost us Schneider so that really isn't much of a win, it is kind of breaking even IMO. Gillis was brought in to try and win a cup and he failed, sure he had the best team our franchise has ever seen, but all he did was add some outside pieces. The core(outside Hammer) were all previous Gm's work. As far as Hammer goes, any monkey could have signed him. He went to UFA with a 1 team list of where he was going to sign. |

Are you saying we have been down that road before once or twice - VANTEL
I'm positive he's not gonna trade anymore kids away for shortcuts and they're gonna have a good draft in 2018. If not, I'll be calling for his head......EVERY (frank)IN DAY!!!!!! |

You do this every time to provoke and have no desire for discussion but not for your sake but the thread the premise is the Canucks have a cap problem. |

Asking a question is provocative?
They do have a cap problem, they are at or near the max and they are a garbage team. - Marwood

After that $10M UFA you have $19M left for 9 players where ELC's and bargain filler UFA's cover at least 6 guys. Leaving $13M for 3 RFA raises. Plus the cap level is going up by another $5M. So the issue of realistic is subjective.
But again this is not going to happen just saying the cap room is there which you deny because of LE contract. |

I am not sure about that I could easily see Goldobin or Virtanen as part of a trade package. I am not saying it will happen but I wouldn't rule it out. |

10M is on the low side. To bring his attention here you're looking at 11M+. A team full of UFA scrubs and ELC's sounds like a bad idea.
The point is that 6M makes a big difference. |

Yes I agree Mike Gillis's drafting was abysmal, in six drafts he produced two players, pathetic really. It's too early to tell if Benning's drafting will be good or not but it is most certainly better than Gillis's.
As for the teams you mentioned, you're damn right you don't need to draft top six to find good players, BUT, their success was in large part FROM drafting players at the top of the draft. |

Combined with the twins it is 25 % plus . Their contact ends but they will get at least 5 each next year. - VANTEL
Nucker is denying Canucks have cap space to sign $10M UFA contract. Marwood is just creating cap problem hysteria. But good to know you think Canucks have cap space to sign the twins. I'm against all of it though. |

1) 10M is probably less than it would take
2) How many teams do you see that are comfortable rostering a team full of bargain bin UFA's and ELC's?
3) My original point was that Eriksson's 6M hurts the team's cap flexibility. This is irrefutable. |

You brought up the $10M so went with it. But the cap is going up and the Canucks are not full of albatross contracts. So the $6M won't be an obstacle on Canuck cap. Besides the youth movement that other teams do isn't a bad idea and part of the rebuild for the Canuck plans anyway as these excellent prospects ripen. |

I added the "+" for a reason though lol.
It's not just about signing the big time UFA's either. You could've taken on a player like LE from another team and get a good pick/prospect/young roster player to go along with it.
Look at how Carolina got TT from Chicago. I'd take TT + Bickell over LE all day. |

1) that was your measure but add $2M more still within cap range.
2) The rebuilding kind. Is 6 among 22 a bunch?
3) Agree to disagree as to real effect. If Canucks had a lot of albatross contracts it applies. Cap flexibility is still there. Oh plus didn't add the LTIR space of DD's contract making more cap room next season.
One caveat would not sign any more high profile UFA over 30 to long term contract. |

See above. It's not just about future cap space. That 6M could've been put to better use this summer or last summer as well.

Canucks have 13 players signed next year with 29 mil in cap space but
Virtanen Biega Granlund Stecher Pouliot Gaudette Holm OJ will probably all be on the team for 10 mil combined makin 21 players with 19 mil in space |
