Jim is a nice guy but it always rubbed me wrong the way that he talks like an uneducated bumbling idiot. I sure theyll re-up him, he probably deserves a few more years to see where he takes the team, but I'm ok if they can his ass. - LeftCoaster
I prefer if he didn't come back but I don't know who can step in and do better . |

Nice game all around last night. This was one of the better games I seen the twins play and a good all around effort by the team - VANTEL
Just caught the hilts looked like a good effort by all. Sucks the lead was blown in regulation but what a goal by Gagner. Maybe that's what he needs to ignite himself. |

I think a lot of people could improve on his performance, hell Nucker would be better, depending on how much ownership is interfering though. |

We know they're negotiating with Benning. Funny I thought TL hired him? |

Reaching again I see.
I like how you can see the now and forget about the past. If you look at Yzerman. He's been there for 8 drafts now. 10 players made the NHL since he took over. He even started out with Stamkos and Hedman as 18 and 19 year olds. Team has only made the playoffs 4 out of 7 years.

I was being facetious obviously. Yzerman has done really well but he's also got a few blunders under his belt. I like how he conducts himself, which is my biggest beef with Benning.....that and I have no clue what he's doing. |

Build a new core, draft and allow to develop. Bridge the gap that Van didn't have anyone make the team for 5 years. Try and win with what they have. If they don't win whatever. |

Trying to bridge the gap was probably their biggest mistake, should've just concentrated on drafting. Some decent pickups in Grandlund, Baertschi and Pouliot though, but that's about it. |

Who at this point would be playing on the team if we didn't have Granlund, Baertschi or Pouliot? Should Van throw in Lockwood and Palmu. Should they sign a few more free agents that everybody absolutely hates to be signed. Could have a couple more gagner's playing for them. |

Jacob Markstrom is now tied with Brendan Gaunce in points. - LeftCoaster
Tied with Niemi too - but to be fair, Niemi has played 9 less games for 3 separate teams...

He has openly stated that he wants to remain competitive, does that mean he thinks playoffs, or does it mean he wants to not be in a situation where the team gets blown out and suffers lòng losing streaks?
I believe Bumbling Benning is smart enough to realize that this team is talent starved and he needs to provide some entertainment value until he can get enough young talent for the new core.
He started with one player, Bo.
Patience is needed here.
Any other team/GM had some type of base to start with, Henning on the other hand had next to nothing, in regards to youth.
I give him 2 more years to realistically get this team turned around.
Again, some patience is required. |

More than that, FA sure wouldn't take the bad press and negativity in the city if Benning had let the team crash hard like some people wanted. It's not like we'd be that much further ahead now then we are already. We might have a few shiny new toys (high draft picks) but they'd be struggling because there'd be no infrastructure around them to help them reach their full potential.
At least this team is designed to teach the new core coming in what it takes to win, and how not to accept losing and being accountable. You don't think Edmonton or Arizona could have used that instead of praying to whatever deity you believe in and relying on one generational talent to get you to where you want to go? |

I think the fan base is prepared for losing and would embrace for high draft picks for a few years.
I think when you try to sell Gagner Eriksson Chaput and Dowd the fans get irritated.
I don't mind the mistakes of Jake and Goldobin. I take that over the laziness and mediocrity of the first group mentioned |

Agreed.
There are several very good teams without the generational talents.
Nashville Columbus and Anaheim come too mind.
Ottawa got there superstar defenseman with the 15th overall pick.
It is not always about picking 1st, more on who you select.
I wasn't a fan of the Pettersen pick, but holy shot that kid should be a legitimate star for us. Having him Brock and Bo in our lineup, will make for some good hockey.
Just hope Benning can stock the cupboards on defense and centre depth. |

Without the Gagner, MDZ, Eriksson you get the mistakes like Jake and Goldobin. Without Gagner, MDZ and others you get the season that they had last year, which was unbearable to watch for most.
Those players aren't the end product but they are the watchable product while we allow the real product to develop. |

Great night for the Sedins. Glad Ganger was the one to pot the winner. Brock continues... We threw around our weight .... good night. |

But more than that, the mistakes that you make, can be corrected in house, rather than having to try, try again and continually be set back. You need infrastructure if you want to ever be able to be competitive once you have the core you want in place and are ready to make a run to be a contender. |

I wonder what this fanbase would be like if we had 3 forwards in their prime and struggle every year to make playoffs since the new GM has taken over.
Yes I am talking about Hextall and the Flyers.
Giroux Voracek and Simmonds have been wasted in that train wreck.
Although they have some nice looking young players coming into the system, that organization has squandered away an excellent opportunity. IMO. |

Back from walking the dog and putting a new tarp on the woodpile, to answer your question, there are bunch of AHL players that could almost do the job of Grandlund and Baertschi are doing, the Pouliot deal was a good one.
Ray Ferraro talked about this very thing, instead of all those deals, which haven't really improved the team, they could've started rebuilding in 2014 through the draft and used AHL level players to finish where thgey finished anyways.
Anyways, beating a dead horse. |

I'd agree they are prepared for it now…not so much a few years ago. We all talked about the consequences of making the playoffs with WD in his first season…that MNGT would think we had a contender and build around that instead of stripping it all down after 2012 like we should have. |
