that's not smoke, it's exhaust or carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels.

I'd call 28 a vet and not in the low 20's.

You are frisky today. You and Lefty smell blood in the water I see. The times that this team reaches it's depth capacity in crazy runs of injuries always has you guys swimming closer to shore. When the team is healthy you guys are reluctantly in the dark depths out of sight.

- boonerbuck

Nah, my stance on this team has been unchanged since camp. I'm not ripping the team for current performance so that's irrelevant, I'm talking big picture.

Crazy how healthy they have been and even in 1/4 season that Danny missed didn't seem to have any effect on Hank. He went on to win the Hart and the AR anyways.

Every team goes through it at some point, Pens led the league last year in man games lost ( I think ) and still won the Cup.

Seems like the Ducks get hit hard with injuries most years. I still hate them though.

For all the talk about the age gap, how many of the age gap guys that Benning acquired would actually be core players on playoff teams?

Sven? Is he a legit top 6 player on a playoff team? Granlund isn't even a top 6 player on a bottom feeder right now. Gudbranson might not even be a Canuck next year. Sutter isn't a top 6 player.

And by trading assets to cover the "age gap", he was talking away depth from the next "age gap".

It's these things that are annoying. Hopefully he's learning his lessons and looking back at his moves to adapt and adjust.

- Nucker101

The tear down tankers obviously jump on this and make hay with it. If this was done to get core players then its a fail. But the kind of low picks and diminishing vets sent out don't get you core players.

So lets look at it two fold. There was a need to get younger. A need to stay competitive. The first one happened. The second one not so much lol.

But there is another factor of why JB may have traded picks early on as well. It may have been the real reason but not advertised. The Canuck scouting department sucked!!!

You know GM's totally rely on their scouting departments beyond the 1st round. Even JB would need this input. He probably felt confident to go with the 1st round with his knowledge alone. This past draft Bracket took over and it was reorganized and we saw the results.

A war with Iran? Saudi will be getting hit hard... not just Iran. I'm pretty sure people will be coming home from the oil fields. Oil would be $250 a barrel right away though. You are right about that.

Could you imagine the Canucks losing both Henrik and Kesler back in 2010 11 or 12. They'd have folded like a cheap tent. Getzlaf and Kesler have been out forever and they're still doing fairly well.

Who are some of Saudi's biggest allies? Iran would be foolish to mess with the USA. They'd protect Saudi and their oil at all costs IMO.

Before the injuries they were puck moving fast, now there hesitant and passes are off its the mental part of the game there struggling with, talent level is mediocure lets face it but when healthy and playing with confidence there not that bad.
- Bettmanhatesus

The injuries depleted the talent to execute the offense. But the faster pace and new system is still there. The problem is having less talent means more screwing up which leads to chances the other way.

The counter argument is this:

Trading picks/prospects for 20 something year old AHL'ers doesn't technically make the organization younger, its short-sighted. You're filling one age gap and making a future one weaker by doing that.

If you want depth/competition then sign UFA vets to short term deals during the second waive of free agency when the players become beggars and not choosers Maybe claim a player or 2 that barely miss out on roster spots with deep contending teams instead of paying picks/prospects for Vey/Pedan/Clendening/Etc.

Brackett was already apart of the Canucks NCAA/USHL scouting when Benning got here, he could have kept the picks and relied on that staff to draft American talent before the promotion took place. If he had that little faith in our other scouts then why haven't guys like Delorme been fired?

Of all those picks traded away who knows what we could of got.

aw well no worries guys. Its better to be a crap team with a chance at a high pick than a bubble team that if made the playoffs would be out first round.

It's already in play with Israel looking like they going to invade southern Lebanon(Hezbollah). Americans are still pouring weapons into northern Syria and Turkey is exposing them for it constantly. USA says they are staying in Syria regardless of them being there illegally and ISIS being defeated. That's called an invasion. Same in Northern Iraq. You are busy working while a big war build up goes on around you.

Iran will go from support to mobilisation if Israel invades Lebanon again because this time they have a land route to supply the front right up to the Golan heights and southern Lebanon. Saudi is the main financier of all this poop going on... including the ISIS take over of eastern Syria. Then of course there is Saudi's genocide in Yemen right now... another front that Iran will exploit in that war from the south. Iranian cruise missiles are in easy reach of everything there in eastern Saudi and the Patriots are failing to shoot down even 1960's Scuds recently... just like in the Iraq war.... useless crap. I doubt there would be a land invasion of either country... but a lot of cruise and ballistic missiles and it's common for passenger planes to be shot down. Remember when Iran and Iraq were at war and the USA shot down a commercial airliner? Anything can happen when you work in a country at war with it's neighbour.

A bottom three finish guarantees a top six pick, I can live with that. I sincerely hope they acquire more picks this year in the top three rounds.
