I couldn't watch any of the games, so not sure about each prospect's overall games, but according to box scores:
Jokiharju (1 G), Finland
Soderlund (0 P), Sweden
Galvas (1 A), Czech Republic
Kayumov (1 G, 1 A), Russia
Altybarmakyan (1 A), Russia - AEL_Fox
Watched mostly all of the games today. None of the above impressed me much today as did Sikura whose Spengler Cup game was running simultaneously. I was hoping to see our saviour as the broadcast crew was gushing about him before the puck drop, but he did not stand out much amongst the washed up ex-NHLers. |

Thanks for sharing that info. Totally forgot about the Spengler Cup. Good to see Sikura make the team and get some experience playing with/against non college students. Hopefully he makes Team Canada for the Olympics. These types of international experience may give Hawks management and coaches a more accurate glimpse of what they may have in him when he hopefully turns pro after the NCAA season ends and he finally signs with the Hawks.
As for his unassuming game today, not necessarily a bad thing especially if he was neither stellar nor atrocious. Just have to remember that DeBrincat didn't stand out at all in his first training camp and pre-season games last year and now here he is as a starter who finally cracked the top 6. At least in prospects camps, Sikura has also stood out more than DeBrincat. Not saying Sikura is better than DeBrincat but just trying to temper expectations. |

We'll see how he does in the other games. Maybe just a case of nerves on the big stage. |

From my friend Alphonse the Monk:
Temp Monk Fr. Alphonse, again.
Captain Toews continues to struggle. He came to me early of our week long experiment. He had that blank expression on his face, and his usual monotonic speech. So it took all my experience to understand the Captain is stressed, at wits end.
Five straight days of beef Sammiches, three times a day, and still, the Captain is coming up zeros.
I told him, we have one last resort. It may either make him, or, break him. I recommended he go to Minnesota, and submit to Sheila of the Norths' two week crash course in tough guy hockey. He accepted that he will be subject to physical and verbal abuses. The Captain asked who might have survived this training. I told him no hockey player has ever survived, but, a non athlete named Deno, has succeeded. Captain asked how he succeeded, and I explained Deno has developed the fastest hand action, and disappearing act on record. Deno steals credit cards, and is the best 'Dine and Dash' man in history. The Captain then realized that the Sheila training could pay dividends. He will commit to the 'North as soon as he is cleared by Q.
As he left, he looked at me, and blinked. I then knew he can recover. God bless the Captain. God bless Sheila of the 'North |

I do not know if anyone can document players with back issues whom have overcome or played as well as previous to the develooment of a bad back. I hope that i am wrong but i would bet against Toews regaining his previous form. When teams each game crosscheck violently I do not think an off season of rest can mean full recovery. Even if fully recovered how soon until a vicious cross check next season brings him dowm - jhawk59
I was thinking the form he showed last year after the injury, not the form he's shown at his peak.
I obviously don't know how bad it is for him. But, sometimes, time helps a lot. |
