Speaking of Buffalo, whoever did the scheduling for the World Juniors dropped the ball as far as USA Hockey is concerned. The outdoor game is Friday. Canada plays Slovakia tomorrow, and has off Thursday. The US is off tomorrow and plays Slovaka Thursday night. They should have reversed that. Canada has an extra day to practice on the outdoor rink and get used to the surroundings. I'm not sure how much of a big deal that might make, but I would think Canada has at least a little bit of an advantage there. If I am USA Hockey, I would want my team to have that schedule. - buffalofan19
Are they actually able to practice there Thursday though? Just because they have the day off doesn't mean they don't have other stuff to do. Their schedules, even on off days are set in stone, they do sightseeing poop between games. |

I wonder if the novelty wears off. I love this tournament, and the fact that it's here, and I know Canadian cities have hosted it multiple times, but I am guessing 7 years is too few in between. Plus, pretty much every Canadian that goes to see this thing already went and saw them play in Toronto last year anyway. - buffalofan19
Gunna sound weird but I think parity has played a factor too. Like when Sweden won that game in 2011, that was considered a huge upset. The Canada vs the world thing was a huge draw for a lot of people. Last few years its pretty much anyones guess which of the top 4 nations wins it with the exception of the stacked mcjesus year.
Canada had some next level medal streak going from the early 2000's into 2011 or 12. Now its pretty much nothing. |

He's generating a ton of chances and had a nice assist. I honestly think its just work ethic. everything else looks good - Sabresfan-365
Kind of unacceptable at this point for a guy potentially on the brink of entering the NHL |

I don't know the answer to that for sure. However, I can't imagine Hockey Canada, who's won one gold in 8 years, decided that going into a game in a-typical surroundings against its biggest rival (in this decade, at least) without a practice the day before, was a good idea. Like I said, it could end up being no big deal at all, but it still seems strange to me they would give Canada the off day going into that game. |

Canada also doesn't really have that "big name" this year, either. Carter Hart seems to have the biggest profile. |

That's my point though, they don't make their own schedules, they go where they're told. The transpo is done well in advance to make sure the teams get where they need to go. |

The schedules came out in June. They knew the date of the outdoor game back then. I'm sure preparations were made.
If the Bills could get the NFL to schedule them 2 road games at the end of the season by request to facilitate a rink for a game that nobody in this country really cares about, Hockey Canada could easily make sure they got practice time they wanted. |

And even then, I got him and Colton Point mixed up. I am going with "their names sound similar" as the excuse. |

It has to be off, which it was according to that slo-mo overhead replay..but guess that's not conclusive enough. |

Yeah, he kind of disappeared against the tougher teams last year right? |

That analysis confirms what I have been saying for years.
James Duthie is a total Canadian homer.
Bob McKenzie is not.

Don't get me wrong. I think he's good at what he does. His NHL work for TSN is very good. I also met him during the 2011 World Juniors here. However, his on-air persona during the World Juniors screams homerism. |
