I agree with this. It was spoke about in the Leafs' thread. Their D gets called out a lot. A huge weakness. What's interesting (to some) is they have the 10th least GA in the league. 21 teams have shipped more goals than them. (Somewhere along those lines)

Leafs have made good strides but still need some adds. We are about three years behind . Reilly is very good but the drop off after him is noticeable . Gardner is decent. You guys still have some work to do but getting closer.

Easy now... I let you off on the two seconds you are still omitting. One of them for an old rental on the 4rth line.

Their D is horrible. Andersson was making over 40 saves a night... 50 some nights... the games I watched so far this year all the same thing including the game against us this season where they dominated but we won on D mistakes that hung Andersson out to dry like always.

I still think the Leafs are rebuilding so are the Oilers. Both Ds need serious upgrades. Both teams have a bunch of young forwards but teams like NJ WPG do too.

No rebuilding team trades a 1st and a 2nd for a vet goalie when you could just sign one. No rebuilding team trades a 2nd for a rental for play off aspirations. No rebuilding team signs a 47 year old for 3 season's at 6.25m when you already are super strong in that position.

Just my humble opinion.

Thanks Carol, biggest surprise to me was that Zadorov kid on the Chzechs, what a shot. Gad assist was pretty nifty!

Not worth 4m. I really think JB's scared to trade him because the return will be nowhere near what we gave up for him.

Another thought on this, I prefer when GM's start building from the backend with a plan in mind, like Carolina or Philadelphia are doing.

Now that being said you don't trade down when you get to pick a player like Matthews or McDavid.

I also like what they are doing, bit, question why they are wasting the talent of Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds, who are players they should have been building around.
You are jumping around on your arguments about "core players in lineup and building with them.
I will let you off the hook though as I am enjoying the debate and the "ban".

I don't think any team is rebuilding when they have their core in the NHL, I do think they're still building though, to me they're two different things....but my mind works in mysterious ways.

And yes their defence stinks!

They had terrible d for years, needed to draft and develop. New core is:giroux, provorov, ghost, couturier. Which is a much better/more rounded group of players. If Patrick pans out, they are going to be a force.

I don't think Flyers are very good. I don't think we should look at their template

That would be scary.

Starting with Bo Horvat, here's what I think our next young core will be and I assume we will get at least one core player out of this draft as well.

Horvat, Petersson, Boeser, JV, Gaudette, Lind, Gado, maybe Goldobin and Lockwood.

Jolevi, Pouliot maybe one of Hutton or Stetcher.

We desperately need D in this draft. Go for it in 1st and 2nd round unless we are picking 2nd and the forward is just too good to pass on. Otherwise draft for the position.

The Flyers aren't very good and their template is not one to follow. Brutal D and goaltending for years. Sure they have Nolan and few others that my pan out there but it's not a system we should be looking at IMO. They are only a few injuries away from being right where we are in the standings as it sits right now they are only 3 pts ahead of a brutally inured Canucks team. Flyers have played better hockey to date...but most teams climb out of their 9-10 game losing streaks eventually...lol

The rebuild envy moves quickly from one team to another. It was the Flames. It was the Flyers. It was the Leafs. Now it's Tampa.

If the people who shuffle around their rebuild templates were owners or presidents, they'd be firing their GM every year chasing their tail.

Yes Flyers defense has been terrible for years and so has goaltending.
Was pointing out the indescrepancies in Lefty's argument about what Flyers are doing.
On one hand you build around your core players and have a "no brainer signing of Voracek long term contract, then, change course and start rebuilding.
