Goldobin called Burmistrov his “Russian dad.” He said he’ll miss his countryman, “but I have lots of great teammates in here

Carol Schram: Chris Tanev returns to Vancouver Canucks practice, World Junior Day 1 recap
Chris Tanev is on the ice as the Vancouver Canucks get back to work ahead of their Thursday game against the Chicago Blackhawks, while the Canucks' four prospects have all played their first games at the 2018 World Junior Championship.

That would be scary.

Starting with Bo Horvat, here's what I think our next young core will be and I assume we will get at least one core player out of this draft as well.

Horvat, Petersson, Boeser, JV, Gaudette, Lind, Gado, maybe Goldobin and Lockwood.

Jolevi, Pouliot maybe one of Hutton or Stetcher.

We desperately need D in this draft. Go for it in 1st and 2nd round unless we are picking 2nd and the forward is just too good to pass on. Otherwise draft for the position.

- boonerbuck

You covered it pretty well though Dahlen should be in that forward group. Plus one of Granlund and Sven who are young enough will be part of it too.

On D I'd add Brisebois as 4/5 guy for a strong 3rd pairing. He's been developing steadily and Canuck staff have been really high on him. Also don't leave out Trymakin as indicators are he will return at the right time for Canuck needs.

Thanks Carol

I heard an invite from lefty to continue this in the new blog....

you can't see the forest for the trees but you hang onto that thought because I know you think it gives you something to hang your hat on.

The truth of the matter is they had two first round picks when they traded one for Andersen and they also had the very next pick after the 31st pick which they traded for him.

Not to mention they felt they were ready to compete after rebuilding for a few years.

- LeftCoaster

a few years oh lefty, you're so old a few decades seem like a few years to you.

Serenity over?
Hope for change and plan for status quo....

I hope they sign Daniel Brickley out of the NCAA.

If we can move 2 or 3 vets for picks plus any UFA or player they dont see in their future then move them for whatever you can get draft or prospect wise. If they dont like Goldy they should move him this season for a D prospect while he still has any value.

Maybe calgary or carolinacould use a scoring winger for one of their D prospects..

They need to load up dmen this year. They can always sign a UFA or 2 to fill the void while the young guys develop.

I hope this year they are bold and really plan for the future then sprinkle in stop gaps as needed.

31 Thoughts pretty much east coast again aside from McJesus talk. BB mentioned in Calder chatter. Classic example of the disconnect with the West.

I left a few bubble prospects out. Figure Sven and Granlund will be vets if still here in 2 or 3 seasons.

We were just at Safeway and Nilsson and his kid get on the elevator.

I am filling my water jugs and he is beside me. I go to the check out he is right in front of me. He speaks Swedish to his kid.

I tell the wife he plays for Canucks she asks is he any good? I said not really

She asks is he playing tonight? I answer "Well he is with his kid here shopping at Safeway, so I am going to guess no"

Wow. That is impressive. Want to bet the voters for the Calder won't even look at those TOI numbers even if their own publications print it.
