So a hip replacement is the only solution? It wont heal? - z1990z
I'm not a doctor but I play one on TV.
If you're not easily grossed-out, here's good link and some interesting reading. There are other things apparently that can be done but none sound too delightful and moreover, if you're a pro athlete of any variety, this would pretty much spell the end of whatever career you've had.

EDIT: for those that want to learn more about power skating, Google "Laura Stamm" as she is pretty well known for training a number of NHL'ers. Some good videos explaining a bunch of the techniques.
You'll notice if you watch the video about stride and then watch Toews tomorrow night, his is WAY OFF and it is no wonder why he doesn't seem nearly as fast or powerful (and seems to fall a lot). Hossa (before LTIR) and Leddy (when he was here) were the only 2 guys that really had that powerskating stride. I'd say you see Saad, Panik, Hino and Kane (to a lesser extent but still good) as the powerskating guys. Note they are also the fastest on the team, no surprise either. |

If it is necrosis, I would bet $100 it started when he got checked into the open bench door against St Louis two playoffs ago. Hip and/or lower back, left side. - 35Tony0
I remember seeing that; it was a nasty looking hit. I, too, have thought the significance of that event could factor into his performance today. |

Didn’t Bo Jackson have hip replacement surgery and hit a home run (for the White Sox) in host first at bat after the surgery? I know that was probably the highlight of his return because I believe he was finished not too long after that. No was definitely a sad case of an athlete not getting everything out of his career due to injury. |

I’m still waiting to see his story on Toews. Think it got pushed due to Glass. |

Forgetting Schmaltz. His stride is Hossa and Leddy like more than anyone else you listed. Doesn’t his dad run a skating clinic?
Edit: thought I heard that could just be making it up! |

Got a response from Lazerus on Twitter:
The Jeff Glass Experience pushed it back a couple days. I'll get to it! |

So a 32 year old back up rookie goalie story is more significant than Toews, one of the best centers the Hawks ever had, face of the franchise?
Truly insignificant whatever Toews said to him. |

Bo Jackson really struggled to walk after his injury, Toews would not be skating if he suffered the same injury as Jackson, if I remember correctly Bo's ball joint was pulled right out of his hip joint when tackled from behind a complete freak accident, maybe a degenerative condition to the hip may be occurring to Toews but comparing it to Bo is extreme
Not only that usually its one hip that goes not both at the sane time, and I don't see him favoring either side when skating. |

Somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but wouldn't be surprised after Laz bragged about having juicy details straight from the Cap, Toews had 2nd thoughts about what he said.
As you say, if profiling Glass is more important, we're unlikely to hear anything new once the article is published. |

Exactly.
Watch the "you don't know bo" ESPN documentary. You basically need to relearn how to walk again and need surgery pretty much immediately. Toews would be out for almost two years if this is what he came down with given the nature of the surgery and rehab
This isn't what toews has. The fact we are assuming something this extreme as the reasoning for his poor play is alarming |

We’ll see if it lives up to it’s original billing.
“I had an interesting conversation with Jonathan Toews before the game about the state of the team and the state of his game. Look for a story sometime tomorrow for Sunday's paper.” |

My left is dead and the right is not far behind. They showed me the white areas on the x-rays where there is no blood so they say. But the wierd thing is that it's not painful. Having played this game for a long time I know what pain is. But this is more like discomfort and weakness. It just hurts when I stumble or twist. I'm sure Toews is in way better shape than I am so he might be able to handle it a bit better. And it might take more time because of that. And I'm not discounting the back issue either. But when my back got hurt I was done, period end of story. I can still skate and play with the hip issue, but I'm just horsepoop like a house league ankle bender. If I try to wheel I wind up on my ass.
And listen, no matter what, I witnessed 3 cup winning efforts. The guys who accomplished all this are gold with me. Hopefully they, and especially JT, are just getting old and are not falling apart. |

sure...toews poured his guts about his health and team to a reporter for all to see...
maybe lazerus got a retirement announcement out of him...or even better yet he is getting married.... |

First off, sorry to hear about your hip condition, it sucks. I'm getting up there as well in age and don't care for the new aches and pains that seem to appear from nowhere, and double the time to heal from similar injuries I had at a younger age.
Maybe Toews has a hip issue, lower back, pinched nerve(those are brutal), one thing is certain whatever it is its affecting his game.
I placed my son in a core/endurance/ speed program, and I told them they can push him as hard as they want but do not have him jumping with weights. It disturbs me to see so many kids doing this, and trainers/parents being okay with this. |

Agree with all of this. Training is great, but it gets carried away. Good luck to your son. |

I just had both my hips replaced due to no cartilage left between the joints. I was still playing competitively but about a year earlier i started to notice that my speed was going and i could not put my leg over the other leg to put my socks on.
Since having the surgery about a year ago I have tried to skate but have no balance.
My suggestion to anyone thinking about replacement is wait as long as possible because even with successful replacement you will never have the same stability
