Risto has actually improved in some areas there.

OEL’s are better for the most part. He’s 2nd in CF among regulars on AZ. Risto is 8th on the Sabres among regulars.

The problem is our blue line is so bad, and Risto can’t separate himself from them in some areas.

AZ has a decent blue line, and OEL leads them or is top 2 in most categories.

And ours are amazing? We have 2 guys who are playing well. Really only 1 right now, and yeah, he's amazing, but it's not enough to make a difference from "decent", meaning middle of the road, blueline to the Sabres with an "awful" goalie and a terrible blueline.

I think the conversation of where they fit in the organization takes place with every player, but especially with an NCAA player, since they lose their eligibility. They can't come to camp, they don't get the same 9 games. If they don't see him in the NHL next season, he has every right to prefer to stay in school.

It was baffling. It still is.

I just hope it really was an ultimatum. McDermott can learn from that as he gets more experience and learns to put his foot down. If McDermott actually thought they had a better chance with Peterman that's more worrying.
