You realize we’ve again played our best stretch of hockey as a team while he’s scored the least amount he has all season?
He’s had some gimme assists and 3 goals over the last 17 games.
He really isn’t Ovechkin - sbroads24
Toews scores ONE goal in the 17 games it took for Chicago to get to the Cup in 2013
Since they did so well without him producing,
I guess you’d say they should’ve traded him
After all,
Toews isn’t really Ovechkin either |

Compared to past expansion teams, they drafted a dream team. - sskkoo1
Yes, this is true, but when Vegas was paying half a billion dollars they weren't going to get AHLers. |

You’re putting words in my mouth.
We are playing our best stretch while he isn’t scoring goals = he isn’t some irreplaceable unicorn that we “need”.

Who is Cleveland taking #1 over Rosen? - Flynox
Darnold maybe
Rosen has been saying he doesn’t want to go to a bottom team
That might be enough for them to just choose Darnold instead
They’re very closely rated still
Or maybe they go Barkley & take a QB with their next pick?
I totally get that we have a lot of holes still
If we could get Keenum or Cousins,
then we can use all those draft picks to fill them
But if not...
yeah, trade up for whatever QB we think will finally be a franchise guy for us
The QB hole is by far the most important, and hardest to fill
Get that done,
and then figure out the rest |

No,
I’m using the same logic as you & applying it to a different player
Just like I did yesterday with OEL
This is what I mean when I say u cherry pick stats to tailor to your argument
Sabres are playing our best without Kane scoring much, so we don’t “NEED” him
Is no different than
The Hawks went to the Cup without Toews scoring, so they don’t “NEED” him
My point is that it’s a bad argument
And also, a small sample size
But if u we’re gonna hold true to thinking that’s a good argument...
then it actually makes more sense in the Toews/Chicago case since they actually went to the Cup without Toews playing his best & we can’t even climb into 29th with this decent stretch we’re having |

No you aren’t using the same logic. Toews did other things that helped Chicago win besides score goals.
Scoring goals is literally all Kane does at a high level, and he isn’t doing it the last 25 games, like he did the first 10-15.
Kane doesn’t play good defense, isn’t a good passer, he’s a goal scorer.
We’ve been a better team with him playing less the last few weeks. |

Kane is a good forchecker, good on the PK, his speed & physicality helps open up space...
he doesn’t “just score goals”
And is it correct that he’s had 11 assists in the last 17games?
And he’s probably the only guy on this team who has given a great effort night in & night out
Yeah, that matters too
He’s a good PLAYER, period

Well it’s not like goals are easy to come by
We are last in the league in scoring...
so yeah,
it’s pretty reasonable to say that losing our best scorer is a bad idea |

When we are the worst scoring team,
how is it a good idea to let your 2nd best scorer go?

But then u say “he’s not Ovechkin”
Well no sh!t Sherlock

Again, putting words in my mouth. I never said good idea.
The sky won’t come crashing down when Kane is traded.
If Kane was signed for 3 years this wouldn’t be a discussion.
But he isn’t a superstar and it’s not the end of the world he’s got a foot out the door |

U certainly aren’t an advocate for him to stay
And there aren’t “Superstars” lining up to come play here, are there? |

we're not advocates cause the cost to keep him is far too high. If he changes his ask on years this isn't even a thing anymore, he's re signed asap and everyones happy. |

How is it too high though?
We have the Cap room
He’s our best scorer in goals per game & total goals since he got here
If Mittelstadt & Nylander come in & score 20goals each,
All that does is replace Kane & Pouliot
Wouldn’t we want to keep Kane & add the production from our youngsters?
If we trade Kane,
how do we move up significantly in scoring? |

This is you saying we can’t replace Evander Kane.

Ok, I’m game...
but we don’t just need to replace Kane’s goals
We need replace, AND SCORE MORE
Feel free to point out how u see that happening

Winnipeg has lost two guys in Ladd and Kane in the past 3 years and are better now than they ever were with them.
We will be fine
How did Toronto survive losing Kessel? Nashville losing Neal? Tampa losing Drouin?
Scoring wingers can be replaced. Easily |

There is a difference in that each of those teams had other scoring wingers on the team already and only needed someone to take over the top role or everyone to pitch on a bit more. For us, unfortunately, Kane is the only guy who regularly produces. |

Except Kane hasn’t regularly produced.
He went the first 12 games last year (22 if you include his injury) without a goal, then went on a 40 game hot streak, then disappears the final 20.
This year he was on fuego for 20 games, and since has scored 4 goals in 18 games which is barely a 20 goal pace.
He’s a good player, who dominated early in his contract year. Let’s not lose sight of what he’s been his entire career. Which is a 20 goal, 40 point player who is one of dozens like him.
I wish he was signed and this wasn’t a discussion, because he has grown on me as a player |
