Schurmer was head coach at Cleveland a few years ago where he won 10 games over 2 years.
He may be one of those guys that's better at being a coordinator than a head coach. - tompo1015
The QB's he has worked with since 2011 (when he became coach of the Browns, and when he was coordinator with the Eagles and Vikings):
Colt McCoy (his one competent NFL season came with Shumur as coach)
Case Keenum (a perennial back-up having a career year)
Nick Foles (got that one insane year under him)
Mark Sanchez
Sam Bradford
Utter...utter crap. Yet he was able to get the most out of all those players. As coordinator of the Eagles from 2013-2015, they had one of the best offenses in the league. This season, Minnesota has one of the best offenses in the league.
Additionally, when he arrived in Minnesota as TE coach, Kyle Rudolph went from 49 receptions and 495 yards (at the time a career year for him) to 83 receptions and 840 yards that season.
His results in this league have been nothing short of very impressive.
He deserves a fair shake, and he finally deserves a shot to work with a quarterback that has an extremely bright future in this league. |

Shurmur would be a good hire. But something tells me the Bears will copy the Rams and get a really under the radar guy, the Eagles QB coach Fillipo, who sounds good. In the end, who the hell knows....I was interested in Patricia of New England, but don't think the Bears have requested to talk to him, which leads me to believe they will absolutely go with an Offensive guy and Wilk from Carolina (who is also a nice prospect) is only being interviewed to satisfy the Rooney rule (which I am fine with)

Definitely. It's inevitable that they go with an offensive mind.
The concept of a young offensive mastermind (mimicking the Rams) isn't necessarily the right way to approach this, though. I want the best candidate, period.
I too have a hunch that DeFilippo will end up being the guy, though. |

I agree. I don't know who the best candidate is. All 6 teams that need coaches are going after pretty much the same guys. I do like Shurmur ... I mean he won with Case Keenun. McDaniels has won with Tom Brady. I am just not sold on McDaniels....but most of these guys are shots in the dark anyway. If it doesn't work out, in 3 years Pace will be gone too. |

Still would love to go to Montreal some future vacation. Habs still sell out? They know their hockey up there. Perhaps they aren't talking much, just swearing. Lots of pressure in Montreal. The tradition. The Cups. That was then, this is now. They are truly now "the Habs Not." - jhawk59
You have to take into consideration a few things about Montreal - and Toronto for that matter.....
1) Back in the day - when both teams were winning multiple cups, NHL players were 99% Canadian. And Canadians wanted to play for Canadian teams.
2) During those times, there was no draft. So players got to choose which team they wanted to play for. And the best of the best picked - in order - Montreal, and Toronto.
Since the first expansion, the draft was created - to give all teams a fair chance. And as the 70s wore on, and the U.S. dollar started to distance itself from the Canadian dollar, it became more lucrative to sign with an American team over a Canadian one. That trend has continued for over 30 years.
And now - with the influx of American, European and Russian players, and the discrepancy with monetary values, the Canadian teams don't look as glamorous as they once did.
Players now only care about getting paid - and they make more here than over the border. |
