Yeah Snow isn't firing Weight (not do I think he should) look how long it took to fire crapuano. It's still early there's time for him to right the ship but with that said the same problems persists. There doesn't seem to be any defensive structure whatsoever. Either there isn't any or the team isn't listening. Yeah we have had some key injuries of course but this problem existed before dehaan or Boychuck were injured. Weight has to change something up at this point. This team will go into it's usual chasing it's own tail mode shortly. It never ceases to amaze me how this team is still at this at best mediocre level for so many years

I agree a coaching change should not be a thought at this point. Doug still needs to work out a defensive system, but most of the heat needs to be directed to Garth. Garth having faith that everything will work itself out has not worked in the past. He needs to take real action and now.

Usually it takes 60-80 games for dmen to get acquainted with a new system especially with the inexperience of Pelech, Pulock, Mayfield and in this case now Aho. This happens league-wide when new systems are implemented. If they can stay in a playoff spot or only 2-3 points out by game 60, they'll be in good shape.
Would love for the 3rd line to be addressed though. Nelson is a POS.

The question is has Doug even installed a new system? Does not seem much different than what Cappy was doing. Nelson is a huge problem and needs to go. Having his lazy butt traded could only help the room.

In games where we've gotten blown out, it's usually when teams find a way to take the top 2 lines out of the game. It's happened against Dallas twice and the season opener. That's where you need the 3rd line to step up. Look at WPG's young and inexperienced D 3 years ago compared to how they are now. Pressure has also been taken off of them because they have 3 good lines. We only have 2 good lines. Nashville is another example of this philosophy.(even before the Subban trade)

Last June I drew a lot of heat for saying that the Isles should not trade away a draft pick to Vegas to protect Nelson. "How are you going to replace his 20 goals?" and other similar comments....

He's stepping into Oleg Kvasha territory. He's played with 2 different coaches. You can't coach heart.

It looks a helluva lot like crapuano's pond hockey free for all.

I was one of the people that said that and I stand by that even though he's playing like absolute dog poop . I don't think any of us could've predicted barzal coming out the way he has and the bottom line is Snow seems completely incapable of adding to this line up when a player leaves. Bernier, Prince, and Quine I don't consider adding to the line up

Hoping the team rights itself of course but the positive if they don't is the hope that this could be Snow's swan song

Do you really think doug would be ahead coach on any other nhl team?
You already know the answer. The Isles as they stand will not make the playoffs, the only hope is when they do not then snow and the whole staff gets fired. Hope they finally get a real GM and then a real nhlcoach will follow and hope that is enough to keep jt from walking. The 2018 draft is supposed to be deep with talent and the thought of snow being there is just a receipy for disaster. Sorry for the spelling mistakes but you get the idea. Snow is calling the shots and until he is gone we will never get a proven gm or coach. Just look at what the knights are doing with proven people in charge.

Hopefully Aho works out because Mayfield is no 82 game player. Between Mayfield, Hickey and Pelech you can play one or two but if you have to play all three plus Seidenberg you have a sub par d. Just like last yr when Hamonic went awol, Boychuk is another proven injury prone loser, especially on the top pair which no GM except Garth considered him for. This d would not last a week let alone a playoff rd.

You do not root for your team to lose when they're in a playoff race. If you're Ottawa, different story. No matter who the GM of the Isles are, whether it'd be Snow or later Dean Lombardi down the road(hopefully) this is on the players. Nelson has no heart in his game and the Captain needs to call out his teammates if they're not giving it 100%. The D can take up to the final leg of the season to get used to the system.
Knights scenario is a different thing. Apparently, I've researched on found that teams had the opportunity to protect up to 17 players when teams such as Columbus and Minnesota joined the NHL as opposed to this expansion draft. Gallant was not coming here no matter who the GM was. He wanted a fresh start with a new team with absolutely nothing to lose. Combined that with the emotion of playing for the city after the Vegas shooting, that's all the makings of a playoff team right now. McPhee doesn't have a great track record either(Forsberg for Erat)

I was never that impressed by Nelson. I have always said he has a nice wrister, but he brings little else. As you say, none of us, including me, anticipated how good Barzal was going to be this quickly. However, I kind of felt like Nelson's loss would be to an extent addition by subtraction.

By the way, thanks for being man enough to admit when you're wrong. At least you're not "always wrong"....

Waive Mayfield and retire Seidenberg. Bring up Toews and play him as well as Aho to get 40 plus games of experience. If they make the po's by some miracle at least you will have a d that will contend as opposed to this broken down mess. De Haan is probably finished for the season and JB is probably concussed. Hopefully they don't blame it on Halak while Weight tries to impersonate a coach. Maybe promote Richardson who actually handled a team for an entire season.

Thanks for update.

If they have to go into April with Mayfield and Seidenberg they go nowhere. I can keep Pelech even if he looks like he is on another planet sometimes and Hickey is valuable for his experience but right now you have a d incapable of playing two solid games in a row.

Nelson just needs to be away from this organization. Sometimes you have to make a trade just to make a trade to change the mix. It's like when Bill made the Hubie McDonough trade. I doubt Bill was trying to hit a homerun with that deal. Garth has to stop sleeping through these seasons.

If he can't do the pk or pp, no real value with his 5 on 5 play. Just more baggage plus keeping guys like Seidnberg and Chimera for NHL experience is nonsense. If the players with 200 plus games of experience need these dinosaurs around then Garth needs to be fired.

Quine and Prince are extras. We need locks in the 3rd line. Hopefully Fritz does the trick.
