I don't get it though, what does the Olympic team gain? And who's advocating against making the best team possible? - jcragcrumple
I was under the impression that kids in Junior or NCAA who've already been drafted by NHL were off limits, same as the AHL players with NHL contracts. . |

So get a guy who is 30, is having an awful season, oft injured/strokey and has a 7.25 million cap hit the next 4 years for the best rental player on the market?
I am not entirely opposed to Letang, just not for Kane. - Stripes77
I'm gonna "unpack" this (as the corporate buzz these days says)
30
awful season
oft unjured
strokey
$7.25M x 4
and somehow all this results in "not opposed?"
and guys are saying that we need to dump ROR because he is not earning his pay.
there is a phrase some of my friends use that I won't write in full here. But I am thinking it, and it goes "________ please." |

I would move Bogosian for Letang
I would NOT move Kane for Letang
Kane is the biggest rental name on the market. There should be several bidders. The price should be a first and a good prospect or two.

im not sure id do that either. can't risk bringing in anymore dead weight and Letang as much as I like him is one strong gust of wind from being just that.
Kane may be the biggest rental, but his price goes down with Pacioretty and Hoffman being available. Those are better players under contract, more valuable to basically any team |

Do you think Paciretty or Hoffman are going to go for cheap?
The teams going for those two should be teams like Buffalo that aren't going to the playoffs. Most playoff teams go after rentals, they don't go after players that are going to cost roster players plus like those two are.

no im just saying that those two are going to generate a lot of interest as well. It goes both ways though. Some playoff teams may be more inclined to pay up for a guy they know they'll have for next year as well rather than give up a 1st and prospect for someone that will walk. |

How about this: I don't want Letang for any reason with that contract. I can't see that he is ever going to provide the necessary value. |

Would Kane resign in Buffalo if he was "rented."
If I were him, yes. I mean, if the Bill's can make the playoffs, anything could happen. |

Honestly, if the Pens retain some of his salary, I'd consider it.
We need top pairing D men.
Even if he only plays 60 games.....Letang helps you get to the dance |

I dont know that hes a top pairing guy anymore. And we're talking about 30-34 year old letang not 25-29
He's got the worst REL GF% of any of their regulars |

Or they may not be able to afford the players next year. If all 3 were rentals, yeah the price definitely goes down. It's not quite apples and oranges, more like oranges and tangerines. |

Even if he isn’t elite level top pairing, it’s night and day compared to Bogosian.
At some point they need good NHL’ers on the blue line |

30

$7.25M x 4
If I could ALLCAPS I would.
And you bark about Kane missing 10 games a season at $6M for 3 when we got him. |

Letang is a bum, we all know there are better, younger, first pass style d out there. For a lot less as well.
