discredit you
I never said too much AHL time will hurt a player. Their development philosophy has shown to be two things...putting players into specific roles and overcooking prospects just so they can say they didn't ruin them by calling them up too early.
We differ because I have an opinion and you just repeat what Hextall says all day. Development is a lot more than just how much time a player spends at lower levels. I didn't say they are incompetent at development, just that I disagree with their philosophy that keeping Lindblom in the AHL long enough will increase his NHL ceiling and in general have any positive effect on the prime years of his NHL career. That is where there is a lack of evidence. A player has to transition to the NHL at some point, and being in the AHL might prepare them better to make that transition, but when it is clear from actually watching a player (novel concept) that they are prepared I think the benefit is minimal.
Ultimately, I don't care too much if he gets called up now or a couple months, but that doesn't mean it isn't part of the issue that this team faces currently. If we want the Flyers to be playing to their potential, see progression, make the playoffs, they should be doing it with their best players, and we (as fans) have every reason to be critical of that not happening. - YuenglingJagr
As usual, you’re spot on. But I will go that extra step for you: I think they are at times incompetent at development.
Even in the AHL they believe in (usually small) roles for their prospects and imposing self-made artificial ceilings that limit potential. We see it all the time. They do not know how to develop skill because they have a clinical obsession with safe, bland, mediocre players. It’s a philosophy for them. It is one of the most frustrating issues I have with this organization. They can hang their hat on their drafting and youth movement, but I question if they can actually develop them. Sue me. |

I thought sitting him against Bolts was good with the sole purpose of him watching how Hedman goes about his Business. Sitting 3 games is a brutal coaching decision. - Konalover
When does it become brutal? 2 games, 3 games? I agree that I don't want Sanheim sitting long term but 3 games is not a big deal. Better players than him including Gostisbehere have sat out as long or longer in their young careers.

This a false narrative based on false perceptions. As if time spent in the AHL working on specific weaknesses that a player has will be the only development for a player. As an example with Sanheim, they wanted him to focus on his play away from the puck knowing that is the real key to Sanheim developing not into just a good offensive NHL defenseman, which is the strength of his natural game, to developing into a top 2 way true top pairing defenseman that they think he can be. it's not only the correct development path, but it's also a common development path. They know that the offensive side of the game will not be an issue for Sanheim once he matures and develops. This is how analytics have clouded many fans judgement and they think it's all about shot metrics and driving play and forget about having to play without the puck.

Who hired Hak... - flyer_nutter
But was Hakstol in any way part of this organization before he was hired. Come on you are talking out of both sides of your freaking mouth if you consider Hakstol part of this teams history.
I'm also a little pissed about you talking down to the season ticket holders of the Flyers. Some of us see that the team is bad this year. We spent our money before this season started and expected improvement. Are we getting what we wanted no we aren't but we are also not going to dump our tickets over this season. The prospects are coming. 2 years ago when I upped from a 10 game plan to the full season it was due to seeing the possibility of this team becoming the next LA, Chicago, Pittsburgh due to the prospects they have in the system. Is it taking longer than expected sure. But I also see the reason for signing guys like Elliott, Weise and the like. They are the fillers to get to the prospects.
I'm not killing Hextall but I'm also not happy with some of his decisions. Lappy should have been gone long ago and yet he's still here and our PK is still horrid. I would love to see a guy with NHL experience hired to replace Lappy. I mean right now the only guy on our staff that had NHL experience at his job before he got here was Gord Murphy but he's part of the old boys network.
As for not going outside the organization even if you want to do the stretch to make Hakstol part of it what about Knobloch who was his most recent hire? |

I thought sitting him against Bolts was good with the sole purpose of him watching how Hedman goes about his Business. Sitting 3 games is a brutal coaching decision. - Konalover
Thi is not directed to this specific comment, but we are discounting what is happening in practices here as well. Maybe Sandheim is continuing to make bad defense reads or having poor gap control there and they are trying to pound home the point with holding him out until it starts gelling? Truth is unless we don't always have 100% of the picture.
Several weeks back I was overly critical of some of Travis' recent play at that time and thought I saw him shying away from the physical aspect of the game (as Bill and MJL pointed out to me). I may have chosen some of my words poorly and it came across as unduly harsh, but I felt like his game was moving quickly away from an acceptable level of physical play to a lot more of the early Karlson "Ole" approach. Frankly, the offensive upside wasn't there to excuse it IMO. That being said, I hope he takes a set back and simplifies his game again and just waits for the offense to come.
That being said he should spot in for Haag, Manning or Mac within a game or so. |

Vegas is not warm enough for me. I'm waiting for an expansion team in Hawaii so I can move there and root for them.
We all no that the Hawaii Surfers will win a Cup before this inept, clueless, laughable, comical, can't make this stuff up franchise. Am I right?

Well said. The only thing I would differ on is with regards to MacDonald. He should be moved back with Provorov in my opinion
