I totally disagree with you.

I think the organization is saying "You guys got pushed around because you forgot how to be tough. We'll bring someone in who will show you how its done."

So choosing him vs anyone else has to do with a specific "need" rather than who is the best player. It also helps that Goulbourne is in the last year of his ELC, and in six months the Flyers will have to decide whether to spend one of their precious contracts on him. Sounds like a good reason to see what he can do in the NHL to me.

With all the players with better potential than Goul still unsigned, I doubt they offer him a contract...maybe an AHL contract. At least thats the smart move.

With all the players with better potential than Goul still unsigned, I doubt they offer him a contract...maybe an AHL contract. At least thats the smart move.

I don't think it's about motivating the team but it is about adding a player who might give a little bit of an emotional spark to the team. It remains to be seen what he will be offered. They just called him up to the NHL. What does that say?

I dont think it about motivating the team either,

I hope he proves me wrong, really I do, but the odds are not in his favor to make the NHL longterm.
