Actually sad to watch this team.
Las Vegas and expansion team, owning the NHL...without much star power...interesting.
NHL no longer respects, let alone fears blackhawks. A painful truth hawk fans are just beginning to realize.
Coach Q, most over rated coach last 10 years. Give the guy 15 Olympians and he is a genius...because you have...15 olympians.
Hawks struggle, with Star power. Team has no edge and clearly has lost mojo. Just like watching Penguins before Bylsma...and again before Sullivan.
Finding plugging vetrans and grinding games works less and less in NHL. Hawks clearly have defaulted to Q's Brunnette theorem. Give me old slow and predictable.
While it is natural to become frustrated with younger players cutting their teeth, Hawk fans, more than any, seem to discount and give a pass to the players getting a bulk of the ice time who are not getting it done. Leaders lead and make players better around them....From the optics test, does not seem to be working well here any longer.
Anyhow, Happy New Year to all. We will just keep watching the league get younger and faster...and watch Q stubbornly hold on to an era gone by.... - TrueGrit
And he is back..... |

The Hawk Cup teams had 4 HOFers playing HOF level hockey. Add inseveral skaters/goalie playing at All-Star levels each year. Add in role players who played within the system, knew what the needed to do, and did it.
At one time, they had what several have called the best captain in team sports to lead in the room, and several other team leaders.
Now - they have one skater playing like a HOHer, one other (wearing the “tools of ignorance”, as they used to call the equipment that catchers wore) playing like an All-Star.
Maybe any coach could have won Cups with the teams that Q had - I don’t know - I kind of subscribe to the theory that it took an Auerbach to mold those old Celtic teams, Jackson to make Jordan, Pippen, et.al. six-time champions....
And maybe Q’s lack of success with lesser teams is showing him to be a mediocre asset, or at least one who should be moved out.
Well, it worked twice for Pittsburgh.... - StLBravesFan

Sage advice
While fans all rage
What will be our age
When this all turns around I cannot gage
So we just turn another page

this team MO all year has been flatness to start games...my gawd giving 20 shots in 1st periods three of 4 games with a lifer khl goalie making his 1st start...and he saved their sorry asses from a couple of those games being complete blow outs...
what the hell is wrong with this team that preaches defense first esp with a rookie goalie....mind boggling...also they fell behind 3-0 and 3-1 and came back...that takes a helluva lot of energy to do that game after game... - bogiedoc
If Quenneville has the stones to do something to react to this complacency, here's a few suggestions :
1. Sit Keith/Seabrook occasionally to
allow their legs to rest.....seems to
have worked for Sharp somewhat.
2. Get Keith off the PP permanently
to allow for rest and limited ice time.
3. Put Hayden on the 1st PP unit and
park his butt in front of the next.
4. Keep Hinestroza on Line 1 and also
get him on the 2nd PP unit. His speed
will help in zone entries and his play
making abilities utilitized.
5. Bouma has been productive but
slows down occasionally. Utilize Panik
in his place periodically with the
warning that you hit or you sit !!
6. Take Toews off the PK to save his
legs as well. Win the D zone faceoffs
when possible, then get to the bench.
7. Use Debrincat on either PP1 or PP2.
His puck had lung and passing are
second only to Kane.
8. Use Saad on the PK every time. His
speed is needed to have an aggressive
PK.
9. Get Hartman out of the doghouse.
10. Use Anisimov down low on PP2.
Just some ideas !!

Ahhh.....he's gotten stupid for years now.
As previously posted, he's done a fantastic job coaching Hall of Famers and Olympians......Great job Q !! For the last 2 + years these same players have aged and outright admitted to " holding back" during the season. Yet he continues to ride them game after game, year after year. I'll give him some credit for at least occasionally trying some new wrinkles....ie...taking Toews, Kane, and Keith off the 1st OT unit and using Schmaltz's speed and another dman occasionally. But, his CUP CORE must be rested occasionally and the youth given more ice time to grow. This is impossible for him to do imo. I believe his thinking is we will live or die with Toews, Kane, Keith and Seabrook. They will NEVER sit because of the loyalty to their success.
Welcome to the Detroit Red Wings 2.0.
Without change, this organization may not see the playoffs for years.....and they can welcome in a NEW CORE of season ticket holders as well !! Good Luck on that front. - Hawkytalk
You want to "rest" core players like Kane and Toews? Who combined make $21million?
I think guys like that don't sit because they're (supposedly) your best players.

Yeah.....and how's that working so far ??
They admit to "resting" on the ice !!
Reduce their minutes as a smart Hall of Fame coach should. They're often exhausted.....probably because of the
Q Country Club climate for all the's years.

Quenneville literally said he was Day-to-Day with an injury in last night's postgame press conference. Fact. |

Q said he was unable to go and day to day, upper body. Foley said at the beginnng of the game that Hartman was unable to go.
I don’t think the organization has a history of saying someone is injured when he isn’t. |

I agree with most if not all -
Completely down on Seabrook because he was a below average skater to begin with...now he’s a train wreck.Love the guy but he’s done.
Keith not so much and he can still skate. I think they are 50-50 ito get in and from the 8 slot play Vegas.
They need to play Forsberg and Crawford needs to be healthy and soon.
First line is set.
Anisimov will solidify line 2
Third and fourth lines are fine
If they go for a rental I would target Mike Green of Detroit- helps on the PP and allows Seabrook to sit |

All I have to say is why did we trade Hjalmarsson. Sure l got tired of him icing the puck and playing on his off side, but Murphy is maybe 2/3 as good. Two deals that just didn't make sense to me Denault and Nik |

Ok he was injured sick whatever .Looks like Hayden sits next .wonder if he will become unable to go last minute . Or is this a move by Coach Q |

Hartman said it himself, he gave it a go at the morning practice and didn’t feel ready. Something from the previous game. |

So now we have to not only develop Forsling, Oesterle, Ruuta and Murphy, sure would of been nice to have Nik here in stead to have more stability on the back end.
As I've said before we are currently in a transition year, so inconsistent on the ice |

From John Dietz:
Ryan Hartman, who participated in morning skate but did not play vs. Vegas, said injury happened in Rangers game Wednesday:
"I didn't know how it was going to feel on the ice. So I tested it out and I wasn't ready."
He's good to go tomorrow vs. Oilers. |

If you agree with this, which I do it's on the FO and Q.
If a team of rejects Las Vegas, can be that good what does
that say about a team with 3 of the top 100 players of all time?
https://www.the-rink.com/...ifference-winning-losing/
Just one item on the list
Game Tempo: For all the gushing Hawk announcers were giving Vegas last night, their success was driven by three simple things: full-speed foot movement by every Golden Knight, never giving up on a play, and quick, decisive puck movement. Setting a team’s “foot tempo” happens in training camp and in practice. Really wonder what demands the coaching staff have made of the players to move with the effort, desire, and purpose Vegas does. Any team can move like Vegas did last night if the “foot tempo” is ingrained into the players’ playing DNA. And really wonder why the entire Hawk bench isn’t on an extremely short shift leash – including the Dmen. |

Baloney.
It is both the coach and the GM doing only a fair to below average job retooling.
I like the direction Bowman took this summer. He made some poor decisions after the last Cup but prviously reassmbled a roster and won two Cups. He kept core together and won two Cups when everyone thought maybe the team wasn't tough enough. He has to draft well and make no mistakes with personnel. He would be on the clock if i was owner despite the Cup success.
But now I address this ongoing annual powerplay fiasco. That is partly on Bowman to get the right players and partly on Q to motivate players to perform differently on pp. No more always same old plays and strategy. The whole hockey world laughs at Keith still manning the pp. He is not suited at all for the pp job. Use Forsling, Oesterle all the time. Ruuta too. Even Kempny has a good shot.
Certainly Q has an impressive record. I happen to believe what other post have mentioned about how Q nearly blew strategy in Cup years. Also he is not best at coaching young kids. Teaching is not his strength. He might be ok at it if he so choose. But given opportunity he usually wants a veteran in the line up instead of a kid.
I already accepted we won't be in the playoffs for at last two years. Are you kidding with how Q employs his dmen. Now we wonder if Seabook will be a problem like he was earlier this season. His skating always was barely adequate. Wiz has told me I am wrong and his skating was ok in past yrs. Well in a game more trending to speed he is slowing down too much. I would not trade for a slow afoot has been even if you could take much of his cap hit
I digress. Thank you, Q, you've accomplished much here. Time to move on. It's not all on you, some on Bowman too. Let's stop letting players call the strategy always on the powerplay. |
