Can someone explain to me what the rules are on LTIR?

For example: the Leafs have Horton on LTIR, he has a cap hit of 5.3M for this year and also two more years. So, they put him on LTIR because he is injured (for that injury is, I don't know) and they get cap relief for his full cap hit of 5.3M.

Now what happens if he gets okayed to play by team doctors? Does the league say he has to come off of LTIR, that you just can't keep him in the press box while enjoying his LTIR cap relief. And, what happens come next year? If he's not going to play again, should the league force him to retire and void the rest of the contract? It seems stupid to not have both parties just walk away from the rest of the deal if they both know he's not going to play again.

It only applies to the Hawks or the Leafs.

Yes they would let’s not forget H Sedin won mvp without his brother for I think 30 games and still went crazy with points

it's a 30-game sample, which is rather small considering they're both at over 1,200 games played...

Point being, they obviously had chemistry playing hockey together throughout their lives, but would they be able to work that same magic with other players?...especially when there was bound to be almost constant changes throughout their careers?

my guess is it depends on the center one got to work with

and scoring winger the other got

if they got a backstrom or ovi, then yes

if they got a ror and sam reinhart, then no

odds are that they'd have had a ror and/or skunk for a portion of their career and a ovi and/or backstrom for a larger portion...and all points in between

In this case with Horton. His contract is uninsured and has a career ended back problem (remember his contract was signed in CBJ). If he retires he doesn't see a penny of remainder of contract. Leafs are doing him and fam a favor by paying him to be on ltir so his fam life doesnt go to $#its. Only detriment to leafs is a contract is occupied till he retires (wont happen) or when contract expires (gonna happen).
