It would be if they actually sold the rebuild. Leaves, for all my hate of them, at least were like "look it's going to take 3-4 years, but there's a plan" and then traded vets for picks/propects for three straight years. Just have to have a catchy name like Shanaplan

That is exactly right. Importantly, the Leafs brought in a front office that was credible making that claim. I'm not sure it would have progressed without the great good fortune (insert conspiracy claim here) of winning the draft lottery...but Lou, Brendan and Babcock, like them or not, have credibility with the fans & media.

By contrast...TL, JB & rookie coach...might turn out to be "real good", but don't bring that same trust & respect.

Lamarello really did a magic job turning poop into picks. Polak, Franson... some of these plugs he traded and packaged, it's just unreal. I expect him to somehow turn the garbage fire (AKA bozak) into a decent return as well. I guess one good thing with his kind of experience is, trading comes a little easier to someone like him.

Fact: Andersen is statistically the best goalie in the league. When you factor for how many games played, shots against and team defensive metrics it's not even really very close as the Leaves hang him out to dry often.
Fact: Guess who else has a modified NMC clause Neon Dion. They can be worked around.
Fact: They won a playoff birth. They are statistically very probable to do so again.
Fact: andersen for a 1st and a 2nd, because he accumlated picks so that he could make a trade for positional need. Something that good GM's do.
