Watched the Michigan/Notre Dame game. Quinton Hughes is nice. Going to be a very good offensive defenseman. He's a little on the risky side, Subban style, but boy can that kid skate and stick handle well. |

Yeah. He's probably better than 4 or 5 forwards on this team - jcragcrumple
It's weird, it's almost like the sabres didn't bring Gianta back ,because they would be worse with out him.

That's true with all guys who shoot with their head down, you can't pick a small target to aim at. The true goal scores always have their head up and picking their spots. |

Clay is only overpaid because the Bills never throw the ball. He was 2nd in targets this year, 1st last year and 3rd the year before. Can't really ask much more from a TE. It's not his fault they never throw. - Wetbandit1
This theory is a difficult to follow.
Wouldn't ever nfl player be better if they had more balls thrown their way?
Clay is average, but being paid top tight end money

why are we placing blame on clay? Did Clay sign himself to that contract? Can Clay throw himself the ball? Blame the QB and old GM for the money, Blame Clay for Drops,,,

That's my point. He is having the ball thrown to him as much or more than anyone else on the team. The point is not enough balls are thrown, full stop. That's not on him. He doesn't call running plays or 3 step and dump off to LeSean.
He was always in the top 3 on the team in targets including leading the team last year. If the ratios hold up(no reason to think they wouldn't) and they actually, you know, throw the ball. He'd be fine.
Edit: When a RB and a TE(Zay Jones did get the same amount of targets, 74 that Clay got, but Clay also missed 3 games) are 1 and 2 on your team in targets you've got some problems. |

I looked at every team, only a handful didn't have at least one guy with 100 targets. 6 I think, the Browns, Ravens, Rams, Bears, Jags and I think one more that I can't remember.
And the vast majority McCoy(77) would've finished 3rd or 4th on the team in targets. Even the (frank)ing Browns had a player with 93 targets, Duke Johnson. There is not a single NFL team that had their target leader had less than McCoy. The Bills simply do not throw the ball enough. |

Seems to be a pattern there...those teams (outside of maybe the Rams) have serious QB issues. IMO when a 35 year old Jason Witten gets more targets than our guy, there's an issue...and an even bigger one when as you said, your RB and TE are leading the way in targets yet are under 80 total. I know Pitt is an elite offense, but our leading receiver would rank 5th on that team in targets.
How people expect our TE's to get as many yards as Travis Kelce or Gronk with a third less targets is beyond me. Not saying anyone is arguing that Clay=Gronk, but for a talented TE1, he's under-targeted for sure and that effects output. |

My mother delivered one of his babies. Says he was one of the best husbands/fathers she's ever dealt with and just an overall classy fellow. Not sure what that has to do with anything but thought it might be useful information. |

That's all I'm saying. Yes, he's overpaid, but it's only because he's underused. There's no sense in paying a guy if you're not going to use him.
Edit: And the Rams was due to injuries. Cupp had 94 targets, but he only started 5 games and only played in 15. 6 targets in one game is easy. Woods likely would've gotten there too, he had 85 targets, averaged 7 per game and missed 4 games. |
