With the Isles, Canes and Flyers on the outside looking in, I would be calling them looking for trade options. Canes definitely could use the playoff revenue and it's been mentioned plenty of times that they have dmen that we would like to pry out of there.

The Isles are the team I would be calling first. A deep playoff run could really help them in convincing Tavares to resign. I would look into a trade involving Kane and Lehner for Bellows and Aho. It would probably have to be tweaked to make it worth it for both sides involving picks or taking back a bad contract, but that would be the team I would be calling.

I think with the Islanders, there is added pressure on them to succeed in the playoffs in order to resign JT. Kane is a better player than Bellows today, so can't just let him play and assume it's same/same.

I agree that would be an overpayment for a Kane rental, but I do believe Kane is the best rental available and I could see a couple teams throwing out some overpayment offers to land him. He may be unproven in the playoffs, but it would stand to reason that a player of his style would help immensely. Playoff hockey is power forward hockey.

Edit: So while it is an overpayment, I'm not sure it's completely out of the question.
