calling out on bullpoop
- BeadyEyedDouche

I'd guess computer information systems or some poop like that, if you even have one. Maybe a year in "general studies" while you were trying to figure out life but never quite figured it out.

what cracks me up

the raiders interviewed their TE coach to appease the rule

like he had a chance

- homiedclown

I can at least respect that they interviewed the TE coach because he knew what was up. Hey man, we're satisfying the rule here, Do us a favor.

If they had paraded in a bunch of guys like Jim Caldwell, Rahim Morris, whoever else, that would have been insulting to them and more of a black eye on the NFL

You're all arguing over affirmative action, basically.

In a perfect world, people would hire based off of their skill level. Not what they look like. The problem is, it is not a perfect world. There are jerks in this world who will discriminate no matter what. And that's unfair. If you're upset because, "Well I wouldn't do that!" you're just missing the point entirely.

...it's just like every other rule in this world. It probably exists because some jerk ruined it for the rest of us years ago.

It's not a "black and white" issue.

Then I'll simplify my point with: Affirmative action, in any way, shape, or form, is stupid, and usually makes a problem worse and not better.

I paid for my 2 year degree out of pocket in NY

then worked while I got my 4 year down here, took a year off to get state residence first

- homiedclown

I did almost the same thing, went to community college for my first two years.

Took advantage of some merit based scholarships and the ones I got for growing up incredibly poor.

Worked 40 hours a week my junior and senior year of school because living at home wasn't am option.

All said and done, degree from a school that costs 200-250k, and haven't missed a payment on my 50k anchor yet.

I took the negative into a positive

got out of the science field by 30

made more money in retail, and my current job

and was able to start up my own business which makes double what I would have made working for the state

the downside is no pension, but I can always buy taylor swift tickets on line and flip them to make an extra $300 a week

I don't disagree.

Problem is it's a double-edged sword. Let's be honest, the only reason we're all sitting here being crotchety about it is because we're on the short end of the stick (assuming you're white).

If there WAS no Rooney Rule or Affirmative Action in place and ethnicities were complaining, we'd all be telling them to "pick themselves up by their bootstraps" and "suck it up!" Most would turn a blind eye because it wouldn't affect them personally.

It's a lose-lose.

I like it. Good work! I lost out on a CIS job that I was told I had in the bag. D.C. came back with "nope, not the white guy" and that's it. I'm still doing ok with the feds but my career path definitely changed that day.

I realize they've been mailing it in all year but man I fear this game is going to be atrocious. You got the bye, the crap at practice yesterday, and Ullmark in net instead of Lehner, who seems to be someone who at least tries to play hard and hold people accountable (regardless of how you feel about his ability). I predict baaaaad things for tonight.

When you add that into the push by for profit universities to spread the propaganda that you will never ever get any job at all unless you get a degree, and HS guidance counselors ingrain that into students.

You have people who are hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt with a degree in Art History, (sorry if anyone on here has one) monthly payments of $1000 a month on a loan that you literally cannot default on or get out of unless you die or flee the country.

And then we (I guess I am just barely a millennial as much as I hate it) get blamed for slowing down the economy, not buying houses or cars, not having kids.

We aren't being spoiled or lazy, we just are the victim of a system that made US colleges and banks millions and millions on tuition and high interest predatory loans.

The feds have at least shifted from crazy hiring gymnastics all in the name of "diversity" to hiring vets first. I'm not a vet but can live with that. If you served, the gov't should be involved in helping you become gainfully employed after your service. You go from gov't "property" to a fed job. Makes sense.

I have a few employment lawyers as close friends, and it is absolutely a double edged sword. But these laws, programs are there because of systematic discrimination against basically anyone not white, male, and in good credit standing.

Will some hiring managers take these things too far and only less qualified minority candidates? Most certainly, but the intent of these is to force people to consider candidates that would usually be literally not even looked at.

IMO someone to help oversea an inexperienced GM

when was the last time the sabres hired an experienced GM?

- homiedclown

What does “overseeing the inexperienced GM” mean though?

Does he veto a trade he doesn’t like?
Does he make draft picks?
Are they basically co-GMs?

It just seems so vague to say “bring someone in to oversee...”

What experience did Lafontaine have or Shannahan or Sakic or Cam Neely, etc etc etc?
